Description

The Dolder Grand Hotel opened its doors in 1899 and is now considered to be one of Switzerland's best hotels. Set right on the edge of the woods, it could not be considered all that central but is wonderfully peaceful. The wedding cake-like building with its charming romantic turrets sits above the town in a sort of majesty, affording a fabulous view over Zurich. In this hotel, the notion of 'customer as king' is no illusion. The fact that the hotel's own golf course (for which a handicap is obligatory) was in the swing of things as early as 1907, speaks volumes. The rooms and suites are very generous in size; rather than being garish and over-extravagant, they ooze chic understated elegance, with soft colors and comfortable bourgeois-style furniture creating a stylish setting. For those seeking some entertainment out on the town, the 'Dolder Bus' runs into the town center and is free to hotel guests (M-Sa).

Yes indeed it was the best stay
By ,
I stayed in the hotel 6 times in the Eighties pre renovation I will always remember its simplicity in beauty ,The dining room with curved windows the chandelier lit with candles on Tuesday nights .The real down bedding in the room with spectacular view, the surounding rain forest The people I met for afternoon tea etc etc Another thing my stays were over a period of 2 years, yet te people that served not only remembered my name but also what I liked for breakfast. Yes it is/was the best Dr Walter Essinger

The Best of Swiss Hostelry
By ,
From the views of the golf course to the gracious staff the Dolder Grand is as close to the traveler is likely to get to being royalty being welcomed to a most comfortable castle. Expensive? Yes. And worth every penny. A destination hotel with its wide variety of diversions and their willingness to provide whatever the guest may wish. Indeed, it almost becomes a contest to think up something they have already solved. The public rooms are a visual treat without being too over-decorated. The effect is of a superior home, one they want you to think of as yours. The rooms, which have every amenity, are a pleasant comfortable relaxing space. (My favourite is one under the eaves with a small deck.) Courtesy without unctuousness is the mode of operation. One feels at home, a cherished friend and guest. Instantly on arrival it seems as if your being their has been anticipated, hoped for. The staff is cordial and helpful without being staid or archly polite. My only regret was that I had, eventually, to check out....

Great Swiss hotel
By ,
Spent over a month a guest while conducting banking business in Zurich.A memorable place to stay, within the best of Swiss hotelerie. B eautiful surroundings and a quick trip to downtown Romer Platz in Zurich. Outstanding restaurant and a memorable bar, attended at that time by a memorable Swiss lady. I dont know if the new version that opens in 2008 will be the same or even less better

No better hotel
By ,
The Dolder Grand is wonderful. Stayed there for a weekend in Spring 04. Very elegant, and the staff are wonderful. I have been to no other hotel which compares. They closed in 04 for renovation. I could not understand why. However, in 07 when it opens I will be back This hotel is on the list of 1000 places to go before you die. Seriously. very generous room size. Bathrooms are large with heated floors, etc. Better than the Ritz for service and style. Wonderful service. Very polished staff. Also recommend Quebec if you want to go to europe without a long flight. Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is a very nice

Dream Place for Luxury Lovers
By ,
I stayed at this hotel long ago, but still remember the junior suite, the view, the golf course, the woods. This is a real palace. If you can afford it, stay there.
