From the views of the golf course to the gracious staff the Dolder Grand is as close to the traveler is likely to get to being royalty being welcomed to a most comfortable castle. Expensive? Yes. And worth every penny. A destination hotel with its wide variety of diversions and their willingness to provide whatever the guest may wish. Indeed, it almost becomes a contest to think up something they have already solved.
The public rooms are a visual treat without being too over-decorated. The effect is of a superior home, one they want you to think of as yours. The rooms, which have every amenity, are a pleasant comfortable relaxing space. (My favourite is one under the eaves with a small deck.)
Courtesy without unctuousness is the mode of operation. One feels at home, a cherished friend and guest. Instantly on arrival it seems as if your being their has been anticipated, hoped for. The staff is cordial and helpful without being staid or archly polite.
My only regret was that I had, eventually, to check out....
