The Dolder Grand Hotel opened its doors in 1899 and is now considered to be one of Switzerland's best hotels. Set right on the edge of the woods, it could not be considered all that central but is wonderfully peaceful. The wedding cake-like building with its charming romantic turrets sits above the town in a sort of majesty, affording a fabulous view over Zurich. In this hotel, the notion of 'customer as king' is no illusion. The fact that the hotel's own golf course (for which a handicap is obligatory) was in the swing of things as early as 1907, speaks volumes. The rooms and suites are very generous in size; rather than being garish and over-extravagant, they ooze chic understated elegance, with soft colors and comfortable bourgeois-style furniture creating a stylish setting.
