BED BUGS - Avoid this hotel
By Lauren, 01/10/10
Aside from the atrocious level of service and the fact that the hotel tried to nickel-and-dime us for every expense above the exorbitant rate, our room (on the third flood of the "Amsterdam Wing") had bed bugs and my traveling companions were severely bitten. We have now incurred tremendous expense cleaning or throwing away our luggage and clothing (shoes, handbags). We have complained to the hotel but they did not respond, which is not surprising given the level of service we experienced when we were there. Great location though.

Nice Hotel experience
By Jay, 10/27/09
Friendly multi lingual staff, room service was very attentive, warm milk at night, quick delivery after choosing from the pillow menu and when I needed an iron and ironing board that was delivered promptly as well. Loved the big bath tub, comfy robe and very luxurious bedding, room was great also, very minimal with no clutter. The breakfast in the palm court was awesome! So much to eat! And then after breakfast... shopping. One of the worlds best department stores is right next door. Which is the only bad thing about this hotel, too close to all those stores in the neighborhood. :-)

If 5 stars actually means 2 stars
By E tilech, 04/07/09
This is advertised as a five star hotel. How horribly astray this might lead you. GIven the location is awesome, but the accomidations are far from it. The bathroom door are swinging window shutters (does not close for privacy), the rooms are extremely small, service is unrepsonsive, decor is straight out of the executive 80's. Don't expect luxury, just expect 2 star rooms for a 5 star price.

service and cleanless: very poor!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/15/08
the location is very convenient and the common areas of this hotel are really nice. However some of the deluxe and standard rooms (the hotel is huge and it is divided into different wings)are very old and standard-furnished, especially the bathrooms! A bathroom of a deluxe room was not well cleaned. In the bed of a junior suite I found the label of a pair of shoes. Unbelievable! The service is poor and be prepared to wait a lot of time, especially for the checkout.

Only place to stay in the Dam.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/07
It's located right in the hub of activity. Want a bike? Across the street. Red light district? Two blocks. Reasturants, stores, coffeeshops, less than a minute away. it was perfect for me.

Perfect
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/29/07
The Kras was an absolute perfect location! A slight delay in checking in, but there was a huge group of us from the US. Our room was on the 3rd floor, and from my window I could see the clock tower from the church. I was also overlooking the rooftops of all the old buildings surrounding us! I just adored the view! We were able to walk to the Anne Frank house. Beautiful walk, roughly 3 blocks. Souvenir shops right outside the hotel. Don't miss Madame Tousseau's Wax Museum just across the square! The red-light district is roughly right behind the hotel, and beyond of course! That area is not for the uptight or young children!! The staff at the hotel were always helpful and friendly to us Americans!

What a place!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/07
Have stayed there several times in the last few years and have always enjoyed it. Great location, hotel amenities and a very professional staff. Give the Sushi Restaurant on premises a miss, way over-priced for marginal fare. Lots better within 10 minutes walking distance. Will stay there again when in Amsterdam again this fall.

Dont Bother
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/26/07
I am sure this hotel was a fabulous place to be 30 years ago. Today is old and out dated. The location is great but it is overpriced with small rooms. 5* service does not apply. The food and dessert is preety great. My bed was terrible. There are other hotels very close by that are far better than this hotel and cost much less!
