A place to be refreshed
By janice, 6/4/05
The Crowne Plaza American Hotel exuded relaxation and luxury from the beginning to the end of out holiday. As soon as we arrived, we felt the fantastic ambiance at reception, created by the amazing modern art works on display. The tastfully decorated rooms were comfortable, with the King size bed; the soft, egptian cotton bedding and variety of pillows to suit each individuals preference. Everything in the rooms, right down to the complimentary toilettries, has been designed for your maximum comfort and pleasure. The Fitness Centre and Sauna were also great for keeping yourself trim and in shape after enjoying the delicious food from the restaurant. Ideally situated in a central location, we were able to reach entertainment in a matter of minutes, be it a stroll in the close by Vondel Park, a drink in one of the hotels cafes or bars, or a night out on the town in one of the cities many buzzing clubs. Everything was just a short walk away. The staff at the hotel were both friendly and professional. This is certainly a place we will return to as it is the perfect environment for relaxation and a well earned rest.

Amsterdam Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/31/05
My husband and I went there about 3 years ago on business. While we were there it rained for 4 days and it was very cold, which we were not prepared for since it was Spring there. The clerks, staff and all the merchants stated that it was unusal for that time of year which it was April, and the tulips were suppose to be in bloom. So to make our stay much more comfortable, they provided us with all sorts of activities that we could do while the rain was going on. After the rain they set up a boat tour (which we decided to walk to see their wonderful shops). We experienced wonderful menus and meals at the hotel. The staff was very pleasant and was alway asking if they could help in anyway. It was the cleanest hotel we had ever been in, it was very comfortable and warm. We even had a wonderful view of the Union Train Station which we later took a tour of while it started to rain. We had access to all the lastest technology such as computer and fax, so we were always in touch with our office. I hope to go back there again, because the staff, clerks, the cooking staff and waitresses were all very pleasant. I will and have recommended this hotel to all of our friends and clients. I give this hotel an overall experience as excellent and much better than the ones here in the states.

What a vacation!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/19/05
My husband and I were there last week. The American Hotel was absolutely breathtaking. From the time we checked in until we left, the service was A1. Even though it sits in the heart of Amsterdam, we were able to enjoy some quiet time. Would definitely stay there again.

Top Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/15/05
The Leidseplein is the going-out heart of the city and this hotel is set back a little from the square itself. So all the advantages without the noise! Terrific architecture this hotel is draped in history with a good bar, clean and tidy with friendly staff

I will be returning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/12/05
The Amsterdam American hotel is located right on the Leidselplein. Just walk out the door and you are in the thick of all the resteraunts and bars of the area. The hotel was surprising quiet. Not a stag or hen hotel at all. But, if you are just a group and looking to party down on leidseplein this is the best hotel to do that from. The bartenders in the lounge were exceptionally nice and went out of there way to ensure i was well informed before heading out on excursions. The resteraunt seemed to be packed all the time. I ate there once, but it was a little out of my food tastes. Obviously alot of people enjoyed it. I had the breakfast buffet a couple of times, and it was good, for 17 euros, a little expensive, but once again it is a five star hotel. Make sure you book early, the rate is like 1/2 off if you can book ahead. The reservation folks have been extremely helpful as i had to make changes and it was not much of a problem at all. The room was large enough, the bed comfortable, basic tv, but its amsterdam, why does one need TV. My only complaint would be the comforter on my bed, it had not been washed (stained), they exchanged it out without a single dirty look or anything. This is the place I will call home every time i am in amsterdam.

Great Location for a Great Price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/5/05
The hotel is superb!! I love everything the facade, the service and the room which was very clean. Very stylish for the value. It is located in from of a canal where you can take a tourist tours to explore the city. Also, it is in front of a Tran via stop which make it ideal for explore the city. The most that I liked was its location, is at walking distance of many nightlife places such as bars, resultants. However, the place is very quite. Also, it at walking distance from the Rembrandt museum (8-10 min)and the Van Gogh museum (10-15 walking slow). The location is safe and quiet. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. The Amsterdam city center is pretty small so you can reach any point in the city using a Tran via without any difficulty. The area is kind of familiar so do not expect to find places such as that in around the "red light district" .
