San Domenico Palace Taormina Hotel, Taormina

When I have to share my room with a nest of mosquitos and wake up to find my wife with 12 or more red welts on her face and arms I do not consider this a pleasent experience. The hotel is well located and beautiful but the problem with insects was not worth the beauty or the money. One of the conceriege's was rude and not very helpful. When asked to make a reseveration he was indignant and sure the restaurant was full and had no tables available. I then walked to the restaurant in about 5 minutes and sat down immediatly and had dinner. So much for the phone call. When we confronted him about the mosquito problem and the bites his only answer was I got bit too. For a five star hotel management should do a better job of checking on their properties. It might be time to take a fresh look. Also check on lost passports for your customers. At least three people were complaining the front desk lost their passports.

We stayed 3 days as a base to visit this end of Sicily. A very beautiful hotel, with incredible views, good service, and a great Sicilian restaurant. The garden area is absolutely amazing. Front desk staff spoke good English which helped alot. Not a good place for kids given the snooty hotel patrons, but otherwise we were very impressed. Our other mistake was booking a tour of Etna and the countryside through the hotel - the guides were terrible. Overall, very much worth it, you can't go wrong here. We went with this one over the Timeo, and we're very happy with the choice. Taormina is a great little town and well worth the effort to get there.
