A Civilized Experience
We have stayed in this hotel three times, and have found the service to be very good.
The first time we chose a room overlooking the Arno, the Michelangelo Plaza and San Miniato -- a beautiful view. Unfortunately, it also overlooked the Lungarno with the noise of motor scooters most of the night.
The next time, we requested a room high up in the back, which looked out on Santa Croce -- a far better, and quieter, experience.
The hotel staff is friendly and professional. The complimentary breakfast was generous and delicious, but we found dinner in the hotel restaurant to be expensive and mediocre. Better to eat in one of the many restaurants in the area surrounding Santa Croce.
Not to be missed: Late each afternoon, at 4:30 pm, the Benedictine monks at San Miniato sing Gregorian chants for 1/2 hour in the crypt of the church, followed by a mass. A beautiful and memorable experience, even for those of us who are not Catholic.
