Smelly, Dingy, Dirty and the Staff Doesn't Care
By ,
This is most definitely not a 5-star hotel. The staff are rude and unfriendly, the rooms and public areas are dark and dirty, and the place actually smells bad. They manupulate with bogus reviews on TripAdvisor, so beware of positive reviews. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else, actually anywhere else.

should be rated a hostel not a grand hotel

Rooms were very dirty. Wet carpets, dirty walls, cracking paint, old beds, dust all over the floors, broken air conditioner. unfriendly staff, no business center, no internet-THIS IS NO WHERE NEAR A 5 STAR HOTEL!

5 STAR??? Says who?
By ,
This COULD BE a beautiful hotel---- BUUUTTTTTT.... it is a complete and utter disappointment. Do not buy into the fallacies stated on the website! 1.) Airconditioning- LIE- When I went down to talk to reception about the problem, I was told, "you are not in america, you will not have unnecessarily cold air blowing out of the vents." 2.) Clean--- Bugs on the ceiling does not qualify as clean according to my standards, if they do to you, please consider this a 5 star hotel. PLEASE 3.) Service is impeccable? LIE- Service is lousy. For a company that is in the "service" industry... they are literally failing at the one thing they are supposed to offer, that is service---- and putting a 5 star name on it is beyond my realm of comprehension. Bottom line, I have stayed in better Hostels than this Hotel. Great Location... is all it has to offer. Which is why i chose it, we are in beautiful Rome, and do not intend on spending any time at all in the hotel room. BUT, it would be nice to have a room with a temperature lower than outdoors.... Im just saying.

THE PITS

THIS IS NOT A 5 STAR HOTEL!! We have stayed at this Hotel in the past (7 years ago) it was lovely. It has deteriorated- nothing has been kept up. We were traveling with our adult children, so we booked three rooms - one double and two single. Our double room was 9x11 the air conditioner did not work you could not open the windows because the shutters were broken. The wall in the bathroom was cracked. My son's room had to be changed the water was leaking from the light ficture in the bathroom and the airconditioner was not working. I only got maid service ONCE in the three days. When I complained, they sent up clean towels, but I never did see the maid. The breakfest buffett was just one type of coffee and pasteries. My Son had to complain to get internet service - he finally got it on the last day. The STAFF was not nice. It's an OLD unkept run down Hotel. Located in the perfect spot within walking distance of everthing. I don't know who/or how they rate Hotels but this is maybe a 2 star. Next time they rate this Hotel tell them to check out room numbers 414 - 416 - 433. I would never book this Hotel again. I am sure there are plenty of Hotels in the same area. This dump offers nothing.

Will NEVER return!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By ,
We have stayed at this hotel over the years since 1999 and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves due to the one nice staff member, the lovely room we were upgraded to as return guests and the beautiful breakfast and of course, the location. However this year, we brought family who stayed at this location based on our recommendation and we were very disappointed and I was embarrassed that I suggested this hotel. The terrace furniture was filthy and torn so you could not sit on it, the awning over the terrace was hanging in shreds, the room had leaves all over the floor as if it hadn't been touched in months and months, the maid service didn't come to the room until we went to the desk to ask late afternoon - we had no toilet paper, no clean glasses, breakfast was sub-standard at best and when we mentioned this to the manager, he was apologetic and asked us to contact him directly for our next booking. I understand that things happen so I thought I would give it another try although it seemed that they had cut back so much, staff was hard to come by if you could even find them and the front desk staff was, as usual, difficult which is the one constant factor at this location. In contacting the manager for my next trip, I was told he is no longer worked there and was also told to stay in another hotel because I had complained about the lack of service on my prior trip. It's my understanding that if something is wrong, people would want to know so they can be sure to improve but not the case here. I've done a lot of travelling and this is a first for me. I will never return to this place and if you decide to chance it, I suggest you hold your breath, cross your fingers, hope for the best and whatever you do, don't complain about anything or you will be told not to return

Overpriced \"luxury\"
By ,
This hotel is a rip off for the amount of money you'll pay. The location is wonderful, and the room was quiet, but that's about all it had to offer. The man who checked us in was rude and talked to us like we were 4 year olds. The Lemon Terrace was not as advertised - the bar was supposed to be open until 22:00, but we went at 18:00, all the seats were covered, and I didn't see anywhere that a bar could have been setup. The rooms were adequate at best - for a 5 star I would expect an iron or full sized mirror, but this room had neither - the only mirror in the bathroom. The shower drain hardly worked, after 2 minutes you were standing in a puddle. The info desk was always crowded and busy, I would advise they get more staff for it. If you have a lot of money to waste, this is the place for you. If you're an average joe like me, who saved up for what I thought would be a 5 star experience, save your money and stay somewhere else.

Lovely surprise!
By ,
This is a terrific hotel. I had read some negative online reviews and was worried that when I got there, it would be grubby, unfriendly etc. Nothing could be further from the truth! The members of staff were very helpful. The room was spotless. The location is to die for! I visited friends in other (equally swanky) hotels, but I wouldn't have swapped with any of them. Of course, the Plaza has seen better days - but that only adds to its faded charm. The only negative that I can think of is: once you've stayed here, you won't want to stay in any other hotel in Rome.
