Definitely perfect for Rome
By ,
As has been said repeatedly, the location could not be better. Not only are most attractions nearby, but the Basilica of St. Peter in Chains with Michelangelo's famous statue of Moses is directly across the street. As for the Vatican, it can be reached by taking the Metro. The nearest Metro station is very short walk from the hotel. We had a room on the back side of the hotel and enjoyed hanging out enjoying the scenery. (The front of the hotel faces the back of the basilica.) We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the street behind the hotel -- great restaurants and a wonderful little gelato shop. Breakfasts at the hotel included eggs and bacon, meats and cheeses, and fruit and juices in addition to coffee, croissants, and rolls.

Wonderful hotel!
By ,
Great location just minutes from Colosseum and Forum, AC was great even during intense heat wave in July, included breakfast was wonderful. Rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable. Most of all, the staff was extremely helpful, especially Roberto and Giuseppe, both of whom man the front desk and went out of their way to help us with tours, reservations, and getting around Rome. Also, the older little bald guy (I did not get his name) who works the bar late at night and serves brakfast early the next morning has a heart of gold. I would stay nowhere else in Rome.

Historic Italy at its best
By ,
We just returned from a one week stay in Rome. The Hotel Palatino was great. The rooms were clean and the service was great. We really enjoyed relaxing in the bar area in the afternoonand having a lite lunch there. The Hotel has a great central location for all the sites. Either walk or have the hotel staff call you a taxi. There was a little restaurant down the steps behind the hotel, Ragno D'oro. The food was very good and reasonable. There are plenty of cafes and shops very close. We would definately stay here again.

Great Location
By ,
We stayed at the Palatino last summer I would stay there again. The room was comfortable and clean and had a nice view. Right next door is a great family owned pizzeria be sure to stop in. Its centrally located minutes from anything you need. The only thing wrong was I went to Italy during a heatwave and our a/c at max was comparable to a mini fan. I called the front desk and they said someone would be there to fix it while we were away that day. Came back and still wasnt fixed. I called again and when i came back that day no luck. However most of europe (with the exception of Hotel Condor in Munich) didnt have good a/c in the hotel. Wouldnt have been nice seeing as though it was 100+ degrees every day I was in Italy. Still I plan to return to Italy during a fall season and when I do Palatino is def an option.

My room was special.
By ,
This hotel is pretty average to be totally honest. The rooms are decent enough and if you're foreign to the area, it's a challenge to figure out how to close windows...but what can you do? you're a foreigner. But my stay was definitely pleasant. Luckily for my roomate and me, our window opened up to the flat that you can barely see in the back of the hotel. From there you could really soak in the surroundings. The architecture of the buildings were a pleasant surprise. The location of the hotel is nearly impeccable. It's pretty much down the street from a huge area of ruins which includes the Colosseum. There is also a government building nearby. I can't remember the name, but was referred to "the wedding cake." Overall, the hotel was very pleasant.

Roman Holiday
By ,
We just returned from Italy and stayed here our first 3 days. It is a hike from the train station, so take a taxi. We were able to walk everywhere except the Vatican from here. The staff was very helpful and and the rooms were spotless. It is so centrally located we could walk everywhere! Great start to our trip!

Great Hotel, Great Location!
By ,
My husband, sister-in-law and I visited Rome and stayed at the Hotel Palatino in March 2005. I can't praise this hotel enough! The location is unbelieveable, the hotel is great, assistance great, and the breakfast that was included was one of the best I've had since I began traveling to Europe 15 years ago. Roberto at the desk was such a help. We enjoyed our stay so much that we've already booked and have our reservations to visit Rome and stay at the Hotel Palatino in March 2006. Would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Wonderful Hotel!
By ,
Wow! What a wonderful hotel with a great location! My husband, sister-in-law, and I vacationed in Rome in March 2005. By far, this is the best hotel and location we've expereinced. I have been vacationing yearly in Europe for the past 15 years and by far, Grand Hotel Palatio is my favorite hotel in Europe (my husband and sister-in-law, also). Buffet Breakfast was wonderful! One of the best we've had in Europe. Staff was very helpful and Roberto was great! So centrally located that we took taxi instead of crowded buses and underground. Cost us about 6 euro to the Vantican each way. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Better yet, we enjoyed our stay so much that we've already booked our vacation back to Rome in March of 2006. Hotel is so centrally located that during the 8 days that we were in Rome this year we found places and and did many things that I hadn't done on my previous 3 trips to Rome. We didn't get to do all of them so we decided to go back next year. If you're looking for a great little restaruant, try "Ragno de Orno" located behind the hotel. They have the best spaghetti. The sauce was like none I've ever had. Prices are reasonable, too. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and can hardly wait to go back next March.

Convenient! Convenient! Convenient!
By ,
When I looked it up on Yahoo! Travel before leaving, I thought it was just a short walk from Rome's Central train station - it is a 5 minutes taxi ride away so if you have luggage do not plan to leg it from the train station. The rooms are large by European standards. A little on the "old world charm" side. Breakfast is standard fare. Their dining room is apparently rarely used for lunch so when we went in for lunch we created a flurry of activity. The chef personally took our order and conjured up the best pasta I have ever had. The hotel is located just 2 minutes walk from the subway station (subways in Rome are the prowling grounds for pickpockets and we had our share of first hand experience).

The Colosseum is just a 10 minute's walk away - although you can see it almost immediately after coming out of the hotel. We took a long stroll and walked from the hotel to the Colosseum, the Forum, the Fountain of Trevi and the Spanish Steps - but took the subway back.
