Worst Service EVER
By ,
Star Michelangelo Rome had the worst front desk customer service I've ever encountered. The service however in the dining room was much better. But bad service really ruined my trip. I had booked for family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids. When we got there, Philipp (the rudest one), argued that i had only booked for two people. So i had to go pay to use their internet service to print out my confirmation saying 2 adults and 2 kids. So when I showed it to them.. they spoke in Italian to each other and said nothing to me. Then a lady says that it's going to be 30 Euro more each night! If i had known that I would of chosen a better hotel. They made us wait about 15 minutes til our room was ready but the thing that bothered me the most was they didn't even say sorry. Location was is good for the Vatican. But far away from everything else. When we were checking out, we had parked our car into their garage, which was 20 Euro a day. This might have been our fault since we didn't have Euro on us. But I paid with a credit card for the hotel and when it was time for our car charge , they said that they couldn't take it because it was from a different company. So they sent my husband to look for one. Well after 1 hour of walking. My husband told them that he couldnt find an ATM to where they sent him to. We had otld them before we werent aware that it was a different company and why weren't we informed? So treated us rudely in the beginning and in the end... they told my husband that they would just charge our credit card for garage..when they said they couldn't in the the beginning. So needless to say, we hated that hotel and their staff. NOTE: It would be a descent hotel but the staff made it really unpleasent. Plus they give you a key to your room not a card. So if you dont wanna carry a key with a big bell as a keychain, you have to leave it at the front desk.

Wonderful experience
By ,
Location, location, location!!! We were traveling as an extended family on a long anticipated tour of Italy. The focus of our visit was to visit the Vatican. Our spoken Italian was weak but, functional. We found the staff extremely helpful, courteous and after a week, they felt like members of our own family. We were given many great tips from the best local deli to a Guiseppe Armani dealer that was able to locate a much sought after collectable not found in the USA. The most memorable as well as most appreciated "tip" was given by the maitre de. Following his suggestion we awaited the arrival of then Pope John Paul II along the Southernmost wall 2 hours prior his visit. We were ushered into seats on the center aisle, row 15 on Palm Sunday. My son made his first communion there and was able to see PaPa John Paul II face to face upon his exit from the Plaza. My pre-teen son, who has traveled the globe extensively, regards this hotel as one of his favorite stays with the friendliest staff. I credit them for providing a most memorable event in our lives.

Great Hotel
We went there on May 2007 for our honeymoon and it was great. The room was clean and in excellent conditions. The lobby was clean as well. Breakfast was good too. Also the staff was super nice. From our room we could see the Vatican.

Great location
By ,
The location is wonderful only a few yards away from the Vatican and St Peters. The Beds were great and the maids did a excellent job on cleaning the rooms. Not every room has a balcony. We had a window. The a/c could have been colder in the room. No ice machine you had to go down to the bar and ask for ice. No coffee or tea in the room. Breakfast was okay. Eggs were really runny and the bacon was very greasy. The americano coffee was great. Just a few blocks away we found a little store where we bought some H20 and coke-cola. I guess for Rome this would be consider a 4 star hotel, but in the United states I would say it would compare to motel 6. Also for the internet connection you paid 17 euro for 24 hours and it would not give you the full 24 hours, but I don't think that was the hotel's fault.

SAFE & GOOD LOCATION
By ,
The front desk trys to get you to pay them for city tours and airport taxis, but you can get a better rate just dealing with the drivers. Summer 2006 the hotel was clean, breakfast was adequate and all seervices were working. Enjoy Rome.

A Great Hotel in a Great Location
By ,
We traveled to the Starthotel Michelangelo in November 2005 for our anniversary. My wife and I had an excellent experience there. This hotel is a great value; quality versus price is unmatched in my previous three visits to Rome. A convenient location for the Vatican and there is a train station about 50 yards away. The rooms were exceptionally clean for Italy, with very large bathrooms and the staff was very helpful. They even arranged a driver & car for us to go into Tuscany, with only one days notice. The bar is nice for a drink after a long day of touring Rome. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant is excellent, although Dinner service looked to be lower quality. We ended up just walking in the immediate area and found several great dinner spots near by. Just look for the word "Trattoria on a sign and the restaurant will be great. For a great Gelato, turn left out the front door, and take your first left. About 50 feet up is Crazy Kono. Excellent gelato and a nice little stroll at the end of the day. Spending most of the time out of the hotel, it served our needs very well. There is free internet in the lobby, very helpful for keeping in touch with everyone. It is also on a very quiet street; most Roman hotels sound like the Indy 500 is out your window. Not here, I even heard crickets one night! Ciao and Enjoy!

Never would go to this hotel again.
By ,
A waitress gave me an inaccurate price for a bottle of wine I had ordered for our table -claiming it was 50 dollars more than the actual price- and latered denied it,stating that I must have been confused with the conversion of the lyra(the Euro had not gone into effect yet). The manager would listen to neither an attorney nor the tour group representative, both who had witnessed the incident. We were with Globus Tours at the time.
