De La Ville Hotel, Florence

We stayed here for a night in May 2007 and the hotel was absolutely magnificent! We got a free upgrade to a superior room and it sure was superior. I stayed with two others in the same room - the room had a king bed and 2 singles, 2 marble bathrooms, 2 tvs and a spiral staircase! A lovely suprise and excellent value. The only thing that brings this hotel down is the rude manner of the staff. They were terribly rude on several occasions - I walked through the hotel lobby only for the receptionist to imply that I in fact wasn't staying there, she simply raised an eyebrow when I politely replied that I was and showed her my room key. We had several similar occurences on our 1 night stay. In any event, the rooms were very clean and the hotel is in a great location. I'd definitely stay here again, even though these particular staff were less than welcoming.

What i loved The breakfast is exccelent,the employers of the hotel are sympatic, they gave me good suggestions for restaurants.The rooms are well decorated. The Hotel is nice and good located. What i liked less. The View, i dont have luck with the room that I received, the view was a very narrow street. Conclusion I will return to this hotel

I ended up at the De La Ville on my honeymoon back during the worst heatwave that Italy has seen in 50 years. It was 98 degrees F every day. The De La Ville was our oasis. We went to Italy to enjoy the scenes and stay in a few select nice places, we chose the De La Ville upon the reccomendation of our travel agent. She was soooo right! This hotel was wonderful, the concierge was fantastic and knew the city well, the desk help was so nice and friendly and there was a fantastic breakfast every day. Last but not least, the room was small but nicely adorned and convieniently laid out. I wouldnt call this a 5 star hotel though. I consider 5 star hotels to be similar to the 4 seasons and this didnt even come close to that. It is a 4.5 star though given my experiences in italy. Oh and the AC always was on and working properly which was a huge problem during that heat wave for many hotels!
