So convenient
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/30/08
This hotel is in a fantastic location, literally only minutes from Santa Maria Novella train station and within 30 seconds of San Lorenzo and the market there. The staff, especially at the front desk are incredibly helpful and went out of their way to book restaurants for us in the evenings. The breakfast was poor but was included within our b&b price so we stuck with it. Our room was fine and very clean although we had no view but this didn't really concern us. Fresh sheets and towels everyday. the only thing was the air con which blew hot when you wanted cold but we were assured this was going to be fixed. The bar is veyr welled stocked with an eager bartender who reduced the price of alot of our drinks! All in all thoroughly recommended.

Terrible!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/20/08
House staff threw away notes and books on my desk. Desk staff tried to charge me an extra night without showing me any paperwork. No heating in a smelly room. The worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

It Depends On Your Room
By Chuck, 3/18/08
The Astoria Hotel is well-located; easy walking distance to most sites in Florence. I'd say your stay will depend on which room you're given. Ours (Room 302) was very disappointing. In a word, a dump. The window is a small, basement-type, 8 feet off the floor. No view and little air, which was a problem because the air conditioning system was not working. Torn wallpaper, light and noise coming under the door to the adjacent room and a laundry shoot right outside our door made us feel like we were in a 1 Star hotel.

Great location
By Jamie, 5/26/06
I just returned from a 4-night stay. Hotel is very conveniently located near the train station and within walking distance to all major points of interest so we didn't need to hire any transportation. We had a standard room facing a busy street but slept safely and comfortably. Service is good but better with some concierge than others ~ I had a sense they may be having mgmt/staffing issues. We didn't find the breakfast very appealing and at 15 euro per person, not the best value - walk to a nearby cafe instead. There were a few English movies to purchase but the sound was barely audible. There is in-room internet but you're better off going two doors down to the internet cafe for 3 euro for 45 min. All in all, a beautiful city and a pleasant stay!

Great place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/26/06
Just returned from Italy, last days spent at the Astoria. Very clean, nice people, stop and have a drink at the bar and say hello to Emilio. I would stay there again, and most likely will next year. Close enough to the Duomo, train station, etc. Easy walk to Ponte Vechio, Pitti Palace, and great shopping. Everyone I met that worked there was friendly and super helpful.

Would stay there every day!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/05
We stayed in this beautiful hotel in June, 2004. Can't say enough about it - the room was comfortable and a nice size as was the bathroom; the staff were very helpful and courteous; we especially enjoyed Emilio the bar manager - he is in charge of the rooftop and inside bars. The location was perfect for shopping and sightseeing - very convenient to the train station. Florence is a very easy city to navigate - the hotel is in an ideal location for everything - we loved every minute of our stay. Also, the front desk staff arranged for a private tour guide to take us out to Tuscany - he was great. Also, as you enter the first thing you notice is the wonderful fragrance - which are products displayed from Santa Maria Novella. Loved the place!

Request room 512
By Jeff, 5/23/05
My Wife and I stayed here teo nights on our Honeymoon. We had a huge balcony that looked out on the Duomo--easily the most amazing view from a hotel room I've had anywhere in the world! The staff was helpful and polite and the location was great (although it was a bit dodgy trying to locate the hotel, but then, that's driving in Italy!!)

A Room with a View
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/10/05
Just stayed at the wonderful Boscolo Astoria hotel for 4 nights in April 2005, had a spacious junior suite (room 512), on 2 floors - 3 steps down from the bedroom to the living room area. Bathroom had a jacuzzi and lovely terracotta coloured marble tiling. Our room had a large private terrace balcony - stunning views of the Duomo, San Lorenzo Church, Palazzo Venchio and to the hills beyond Florence. Public areas of the hotel beautifully decorated - stained glass and painted ceilings, marble staircase, lovely inner courtyard. Helpful, efficient and responsive staff.
