Borthwick Castle Hotel, Gorebridge

Only the view was good. The room were poor, the service unbelievably offensive (we were literally told to go to bed on the dot of midnight), highly overpriced and one party member got violent food poisoning from what must be the most excrebale food i have eaten in years. At all costs avoid this foul establishment.

My wife and I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the castle and the staff was generally very nice. We stayed up (1:30, 2:00AM) in the great room several nights in a row and can't wait to return. It was not cheap, but it was the experience of a lifetime. Highly recommended!!

WOnderfully romantic place to stay, close to the city, dreamy and great food! Dont miss it.

For me, it is just like my own country, except the price are totally much more expensive.. but i can't deny on one thing.. the service is very good.

The only thing i would suggest to you guys is making sure you book it online at SweetHotelDeals. N e t I did a bunch of searching for hotel prices, and that site seems to have the lowest prices all around

I loved the Castle itself. I had read the book "Falling in love with Borthwick Castle" and wanted to stay there since. I brought my brother and mother with me who swear they saw a ghost in the "Mary Queen of Scots" room which we stayed in but I did not. Took the tour of the castle and was even more in love with the castle. The staff was great to us. i will go again in 2006 but this time my partner is coming with me.

True, authentic castle without the normal hotel ammenities. Haunted by the Catherine the maid who was murdered in the Red Room in the 16th century. Strange goings-on, but would not miss it for the world!

We married at Borthwick Castle and we had the perfect day, the castle and its grounds are stunning, peaceful and the ideal location for couples looking for a romantic getaway! The staff were fantastic and friendly, we have been back a couple of times in the last 7 years and are planning a trip there with our two sons very soon!

Dig. We stayed at the castle many times and had incredible events. New Years's Eve in the Great Hall will never be forgotten. I did witness a ghost while in the kitchen. A white female shape went straight from the hall into the room where the kitchenware was kept. Upon investigation there could be nothing as there was a stone wall about, I don,t know, several feet thick. Yeah, we were in a rock band (Blue Dye Fire) at the time and smoked a bunch of weed, but... I swear to you all I was completely sober when this experience happened. I have been to the castle many times and, whether you believe it or not, this place...this station standing at a certain point in time...it is a portol for spirits. One of many. Trust me. My wife and I have spent nights in many rooms and each have their own curious goings on. The Red Room. (I can feel ...) No thanks. Too spooky,yet beautiful. Psychic people have had incredible experiences. Walking into the castle, a psychic saw the great hall filled with dancing people,dressed in period attire. According to the tale I was told, she asked what all these people were doing. Was there a party? The doorman replied, "What party?" Apperently, she was so freaked out, she split and never returned. I must tell you, though, it is a wonderful place. The ghosts, at least the spirits we felt present, are welcoming. And they seem to like Rock & Roll, as bands like Urban Voodoo Machine have recently raised the happy dead on the grounds. Long live ROCK. Borthwick is a place of dream and fantasy come to life.

THE STONE STEPS TO THE BIG ENTRY , STEWARTS MEET YOU IN THE ROUND DRIVE AND ESCORT YOU INTO THE CASTLE/ OH MY /YOU ARE STANDING IN THE GREAT ROOM WHERE KNIGHTS ONCE RODE THERE HORSES.THE WINDING STONE STAIRS TO YOUR ROOMS. THE TOUR OF THE CASTLE IS EXCITEING THE FOOD DELICIOUS THE OLD CEMETARY AND CHURCH NEXT TO THE CASTLE , THE CREEK AND BOTHWELLS RUINED CASTLE NEAR BY ....THIS IS A REAL CASTLE!!!!! I HAVE STAYED HERE 3 TIMES
