Novotel Paris Les Halles, Paris

First impression was very good - nice reception, friendly staff, central location. However, we soon found that one of the lifts was not working and stayed that way for the four days we were there. No signage was put up to show this. We were upgraded to a superior room soon after arrival due to the broken air con in our original room making it seem like a sauna. The new room was very nice with a separate shower and bath but the shower door did not fit properly and led to a very soggy bedroom carpet after we'd both showered. These were minor problems but not so the breakfast. We were getting down to the dining room between 9:30 and 10:00 each morning but found that the staff were not replenishing many of the finished items even at that early hour. At 17.50 euros for breakfast I expect to be able to get all the items up to 10:30 when service ends. Quite often there weren't any plates or cups to hand either. Rather disappointing I'm afraid.

In central location and close to everything. Staff are excellent and most speak English well. Restaurant is top notch. We have stayed in it 6 to 7 times.

Exceptionally rude front desk clerk by the name of Chantal. The amenities are minimal, the carpets in the rooms are stained and dirty, no bell service which was an issue for our pregnant friend who had several pieces of luggage. Just basically a low rent hotel that I would rate at a one star max. The location is excellent, but would have gladly spent time on the Metro for a nicer hotel.

I was a little worried about staying here after reading some online reviews. But I had a wonderful stay! I travel a lot for my job, so I have stayed in a lot of hotels. This one was just great and I had no problems at all. I would say that it is definately 4 star quality. I paid a 25 euro per night supplement so that I could have a rennovated room. It was worth every penny because the room was beautiful! It was spotlessly clean, very quiet, large in size, and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the comforter on the bed. It was soft and poofy almost like down, but it was cotton. The bathroom was also really nice and very clean and modern. It had a seperate shower and bathtub, which was nice. The decoration in the room was just beautiful. It was a very modern and almost minimalist look, which is exactly my style. The food in the restaurant was really good also. And the location is perfect! I walked to the Lourve in about 10 minutes. And the Metro station is just right in front of the hotel. There are tons of restaruants and shops surrounding the hotel. Be careful though, because I did notice that there were some shady looking people and a "sex shop" area not too far from the hotel. If you stay on the main streets you will be fine. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

I'm very disappointed in this (no way a 4*) hotel and I hope that Priceline lowers this to a 2.5* sometime soon. First off, the location is great and the lobby would lead you to believe that this is indeed a 4* hotel. However, the hallways appear as if they belong on an old ship. Once we checked in to our non-smoking room, I was overwhelmed by the musty smell of old smoke. The furnishings were all well past their prime, and the carpet was worn (almost through the floor). They don't have an alarm clock or a refrigerator, and the shower head can only be mounted for a shorter person and is very uncomfortable to use. In addition, we were awoken at 7:30am by what must have been the service people. The constant banging didn't stop and we left the room at 10:30am. In summary, this is definitely NOT a 4* hotel. If you don't plan on spending much time in your room, you will only be mildly disappointed. However, most would be much happier elsewhere.
