Worst hotel

The hotel France Louvre was without a doubt the worst hotel we've ever experienced. Our room #42 didn't face the rue de Rivoli, but instead the inner "courtyard" if it can be called that, which was like a dilapidated slum covered with a some kind of slimy residue and with big areas of cracked peeling paint and strange hanging rags outside on various windows. It was by no means charming. More like vomit inducing. When I opened the window out to this area, there was a wave of stale air that made me almost feel like falling into this pit. That would've really been a miserable beginning to our paris trip! In addition the lobby had a large area of the ceiling that was flaking off.
We paid for a double room but it was the size of a small single with a twin bed jammed up into a corner so that there was only a thin sliver of floor space. The bathroom was the size of a closet, so the shower was pressed up against the toilet. My wife noticed the odor of urine in the shower and theorized that it was due to this proximity. The curtain was old and over time it accumulated the urine smell. The room temperature and ventilation controls didn't work and we really didn't want to let in the stale air from the pit inside. The sheets and floor were not clean, and my wife had flea bites that night from the bed. I felt like stretching my legs on the floor since we had done so much walking on our first day, but the carpet wasn't clean, it had some kind of dirt stains on it, so I ended up putting a towel over this just to avoid getting dirty.
We had a chance to see a room that faced the street and it was in better shape than the inside rooms, modestly but noticably bigger and the view of the street was decent. I suppose the 3 star classification may have been based on these types of rooms, but it is an extremely deceptive business practice to advertise and market rooms that are of 3 star quality and comfort, and instead be given a room that is extremely small, dirty, distasteful and lacking in convenience features and is obviously of a much lower standard.
