We enjoyed Byblos very much.

But all experienes should be discussed in context. Clearly the previous guest did not do their homework before going to St. Tropez let alone Byblos. St.Tropez in the summer especially on market days of Wednesday and Saturday is a nightmare! Best arrive by sea and take the shuttle from the harbor to the hotel. Then check on when their rooms are ready. They have a later check out time than most expecting that many of their guests enjoy the night life and get up late. Thus their check in time is correspondingly later than most. But they will look after your luggage if you arrive early and you can either lounge at the bar/pool side or wander the town. We found on the two occassions we stayed there our rooms were be spotless and very nicely appointed with a lot of attention to detail. Sure the pool is not large but unless you are an Olympic swimmer it is quite adequate. Winter 2007 they do plan on a total pool/bar redo, so we were told. The food at both the bar, their own pool side restaurant Bayader and Alain Ducasse's Spoon is very good. And you can't get more centrally located while at the same time enjoying being just enough removed from the maddening crowds for peace and quiet. As for price, the hottest spot in the Cote d'Azur is never going to be cheap. If you want cheap stay at the Mercure or Ibis. This is prime real estate and does not come inexpensively. If you are concerned about cost, don't stay at the Byblos or place on an upmarket stay in St. Tropez in the high season. They is unobtrusive security, so if you are paporazzi bait, you can expect privacy as one of the standard features.
