Hotel Bougainvillea, Guadalupe

Gardens are extensive and beautiful, but the rooms are dull and dated, baths are small, need renovation, but worst of all, the restaurant is priced way above average and the food is quite a bit below average. Choice is poor and unsophisticated. In this hotel, you are trapped a long way from dining alternatives. Don't consider this for an overnight.

This is an excellent lodging place: it has beautiful gardens, a professional motivated and attentive, the restaurant provides high quality and innovative dishes prepared with vegetables from their own garden. The premises are clean and nicely presented. The location is very convenient, less than 10 kilometers away from downtown, also at convenience distance from the main airport. The surroundings of the Hotel are quiet, clean and safe. The administration actively supports the community, use environmentally friendly working procedures and pay fair wages. Even if their rates might look a bit above the average, this place offers a very cost effective service.

A highly regarded Costa Rican gentleman and his wife recommended the Bougainvillea Hotel to us. Our first stay there was in 2001 and we have returned several times. We cannot imagine staying elsewhere in San Jose.. The meals are delicious and guests can watch the tropical birds from the large window in the dining room. The gardens in the back of the hotel are beautiful, the service is outstanding and, in the U.S., we know we'd have to pay at least twice what the Bougainvillea charges. Must we say more?

This is a very old hotel, but without the historical charm, and very worn out. For the price, one can easily find much better locations and value in the city. Rooms are dark and musky and there is no life or spirit about the place. Dont stay here.

Absolutely beautiful. Loved the view of the garden and birds at breakfast. Enjoyed the garden walk. A perfect stay for the first day in Costa Rica. A little hard to find. Thank goodness for the signs!

Every time we go back to costa rica, we will always try and stay at least a night or two at the Hotel Bougainvillea. The staff was wonderful and friendly. The gardens were outstanding! But most of all the staff was always there for us with what ever we needed. If you are looking for a place to relax and recharge, a place that is quiet and out from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is the place. With transportation into SJ and day trips as well as overnight trips to almost anyplace in the country, you will not feel completely isolated either. First class hotel at a great price.

Best hotel In Costa Rica. The people were very nice, gardens were great, service was the best, food was good and this hotel was one of the many things that made costa rica great! This hotel made my trip the best ever!

This is the VERY BEST place to stay while in San Jose. The rooms are great and the food is the wonderful. There is nothing better for the price in Costa Rica.

This is a great place to stay if you have an early flight to catch or get in after dark. Clean rooms good food and incredible gardens. Bit hard to find.

I have stayed in all the chain hotels in SJ, none compare to warth of this hotel. A little far from the airport, but worth the earlier awakening.
