never going back
By lola, 4/15/12
first of all,i must say the location, and landscaping of the hotel is excellent, the rooms are average, clean but you can tell its old.we paid $8000 for 2 rooms inclusive of breakfast and dinner, our 1st and only dinner, my husband and father in law, ordered johnny walker and black & white scotch, only to be told 15mins after they dont have those they only have mc arthurs,,so we made a suggestion that on a busy wknd like this they should have catered to everyone's needs, linda(a dinner staff, who was not serving us)came over an said in a very rude tone, "we dont serve top chef dinner an liquor,if u wanted that u should have gone to coco reef or hilton",breakfast was really poor,my husband and i waited almost an hour on 2 mornings just to get eggs,,,when asked what was the keep back no one had answers,,,food, even though it tasted ok,was basic, not much variety,,,so my mother in law who is vegetarian didnt have much to choose from so we ate dinners elsewhere on the other evenings, even though our dinners were paid for,,,management needs to step up and improve its staff, because nobody seems to know what it going at this hotel, the clerk at the front desk, all she says is "its not my fault,i just work in the front" we requested to have a late check out,and were told we couldnt,,,upon checking out,had we nt scrutinize our drinks bills for the dinner,we would have paid for stuff we didnt even drink,,,they billed us for the black and white we ordered even though we didnt get it an for 7 fruit punches when my 9 yr old niece only had 1,,,,i personally think with proper management this hotel can make it,,,bt if it continues the way it is,its going to become run down once again

Comfortable and welcoming
By MARION, 11/7/09
Just spent 2 weeks at Tropikist on my first visit to the Caribbean! My room was basic but clean and had everything I needed including a wonderful sea view. I chose Tropikist because it only has 54 rooms and I don't particularly like larger establishments and from my perspective this was a good choice for me as I was able to feel relaxed in my surroundings immediately. The location is wonderful (only 5 minutes by taxi from the airport) and was only surpassed by the friendliness and warmth of the staff who always greeted me with a smile and friendly hello. One or two were a little shy at first but once we broke the ice they were fine. As a single woman traveller this was a great comfort and I very quickly felt at ease and safe in my environment. Tobago and Tropikist Beach Hotel is the friendliest place that I have ever visited and it would have been hard not to have enjoyed my stay. As with most things in life, if you make the effort to be pleasant to others, they will treat you with the same respect. I would have no hesitation in returning.

Value for dollar
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/4/09
When I decided to take my family on vacation, i looked at all the options available, we decided on Tropikist as it was 1) located a few mins away from Trinidad and 2) we did not have to get passports and visas..I called the hotel and spoke to sam (whom I later found out was the hotel's manager) he was very helpful and I said to him "first impressions count" he was able to sell me on an all-inclusive package and my family decided on it as we did not want to be bothered with having to find meals and look around for food, when you check up all the harrass it works out better to go all-inclusive. We got in early, we were told that the guests were checking out now and they will try and have the room ready, we were very happy for that, score 2 for Tropikist. Our holiday just kept getting better. I really can't say where these moaners stayed, but they certainly did not stay where I stayed. Yes the towel issue but that apart everything was really nice. Sam and his staff are really hardworking, this man works all areas of the hotel, you see him for breakfast, dinner, at the front desk, is there any place you dont see him? I understand he is a very good cook also.

Perfect Vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/3/09
For all those out there who read the reviews and shy away you are missing out on a great vacation. From the time we entered the Tropikist we were greeted with a smile, those people working at reception were excellent, first impressions really do count. We were given an upgrade because the hotel was full, and we were grateful for that the room was very large and spacious, with walk in washroom and bathtub..we had a daily maid service, the only thing I can fault them was the towel issue, apparently their laundry is incapable of handling the large crowds so they must collect towels early to have them laundered but the staff is always helpful and try to offer you alternative towels to use, yes the alternatives are usually old towels but they are clean to use so people stop complaining, you use one towel per week at home, so what's the fuss? breakfast was nice and well stocked.I will continue using the tropikist and thanks to the general manager sammy or uncle sam as he is fondly called, a truly hardworking young man, hope his employers can see his contribution and spend some money on the hotel.

Sunny tobago
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/24/09
Ok..lets begin..location....excellent !! you cant fault them, the hotel is on excellent location, loved it..the room was nice, we was in a standard room (room 87) pretty spacious, very sparsily decorated, but ok, we only used it to sleep. The balcony has a nice view of the grounds and the ocean..the washroom needs to be properly vented. The staff really nice, very friendly, everyone we approached was nice and friendly, we cant fault them, well except the towel woman, every morning very early she would come for towels.. The food was nice, we was all inclusive, we have been to a few all inclusive resort before but not like this, but the hotel is like a family. Sammy is a nice guy, very friendly if he wants to be, he mostly associated with the foreign guests, but always greeted you when he passed you. Tobago is the ideal get away for me and I will keep on going to tropikist, I love you guys..

Really Great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/20/09
I did not realise yahoo reviewd the Tropikist, here is my review, I stayed at the Tropikist in december for two nights, we were originally booked in the Hilton, but since they were closed, we choose the Tropikist. Our time there was really great,we met the manager sam, who is a really cool guy, he was really nice, spent hours chatting with us one evening, the hotel was hosting a private party ad most people was in the party, so sam spent the time keeping us company. The entire staff was really great to us, they offered us places to visit, night clubs, etc, oour rooms was cleaned daily and we had fresh clean towels daily, the hotel grounds was well kept and the pools, yes pools (more than one) was fantastic. The tropikist is an ideal hotel for families or older persons as there is not much to do, hohwever if you want to relax and enjoy your time, go there. we stayed all-inclusive and we had a blast, the bar supplied cold beers all day and night and the food was good, not much variety, but pleanty to choose from. We enjoyed our stay and would surely go back, we met lots of people there who has been going back yearly.
