Rude people!!
By Wolf Sister, 10/26/05
The entire hotel is breathtaking and literally oozes history of the Spanish occupation BUT the people that work in the hotel are actively hostile to Americans. The service was slow and slovenly. Hopefully, you like your room service cold and inaccurate. Not only in the hotel but on the streets in the better parts of San Juan. Cries of "Yanqui go home" or the Spanish equivilant followed us almost wherever we went. The people in the hotel and surrounding areas refused to speak any English and were positively rude when we surprised them with our fluency in Spanish (being from California, it is a necessity!) Of course, they pretended that they could not understand us! We will never go back!!

WE went back only to be told "We only have a room with two beds" but the room had a great view Great view of a alley. The beds hard we both did not sleep all night Who ever gave this dump a 4 star's is nut's

its a shame
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/06
This place is wonderful .The problem is that is it is overpriced. You take a place like this and actually make it affordable you would have so many more people there each weekend. I met my husband there in 2003. I have tried to book there each year. It is just to overpriced. I can't even go for a weekend. I am Boriqua. It is ahame to say that it is cheaper to spend a week in The Dominican Republic and not spend as much as in San Juan. Shameon my people. aprendan a hacer negocios if not Puerto rico is going to continue going under. Les debe dar verguenza Boriqua.

Great! Would love to go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/6/05
Hotel El Convento was great. The location is great. It's right in the middle of Old San Juan. The staff went out of their way to tend to our needs. Our room was gorgeous and very clean. The hotel restaurants were very good. The food was delicious and service was great. The bed in our room was comfy and bathroom was adequate. The hotel computer/office was useful. Overall this hotel would be our choice if we decide to go back to San Juan.

spend 4 lovely days and looking forward to the next trip back to Old San Juan at the El Convento
By Willy Keyner, 9/8/07
Like? Loved every mojito moment with the great staff at the Hotel El Convento. From the gals at the front desk, the warmth of the wait staff, to the barkeeps upstairs...you guys rocked! Much thanks to all, especially Lucas at the el picoteo. Thanks, bro! Concepcion, muchas gracias for keeping me cool with lots of Concepcion Especiales. We had a large group that weekend (50 or so) and all were taken care of. We shall return.

Unique and Wonderful...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/06
El Convento is centrally located in old san juan in the midst of everything -- great restaurants (Parrot Club, Agua Viva, Sophia's, Dragonfly, La Bombonera), galleries, museums, historical sites (la fortaleza, el morro, san juan cathedral, etc.), and many shops. The hotel is lovely; the staffmembers are efficient, friendly, and helpful. Everyone speaks English -- in the hotel, the galleries, and most of the shops and restaurants. The hotel courtyard is absolutely stunning, especially at night with the nispero tree filled with lights. Don't miss el Picoteo, the tapas bar at the hotel, sitting on the terrace during the wine and cheese hour looking over at the san juan cathedral, soaking in the plunge pool or jacuzzi on the rooftop...it's a wonderful place.

charming hotel
By brian g, 3/5/08
great location in the old city. service could be better. if you are looking for charm it is a great place but inconvient if you want the beach unless you have a car. the gym is lacking. the rooms could be a little nicer for what they charge you.

A true boutique experience
By eli wendkos, 9/14/09
Great location, great rooms, awesome staff. Really, there's nothing I didn't like about this place. Not only would I recommend it, I'd stay there again. Seriously this was exactly what we were looking for in a hotel experience.
