We go back every year
By ShariV, 3/4/09
We like this hotel because it is locally owned and operated. In other words, the money stays in Jamaica to support their economy instead of padding the pockets of some megacorporation somewhere. We have been to Doctor's Cave many times; we love the beautiful grounds. The rooms are not luxery, but they are clean. And if you want quiet, ask for a room away from the street and the bar. Regarding the service at the restaurant, yes, it is slow. But welcome to Jamiaca; that's the way things are down here. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful. The front desk is not consistently great, but it helps if you talk to them in person when you arrive and get to know them a bit. Doctor's Cave beach is glorious. Be sure to buy some coco bread and feed the fish off the pier. We did that every day with our kids.

different
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/15/08
I travel to jamaica every year, but it was the first time ever to stay in a hotel. when we arrived at Doc's Cave Hotel my first thought was very nice!! when we got to our room which was pretty nice, but the only problem was it was next to the busy road so at night the traffice was real bad. We was given another room which ok. The staff there are amazing they are very welcoming an friendly speacially the bar tender Kenny!!!! Would i go back to Doc's Cave Hotel? Well only if the rooms were well up to dated with a much more modern look.

Can you say nightmare?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/5/08
Last week, my father, sister and I took a vacation to, in which we stayed at the Sunset Beach. We were supposed to leave Friday night, but our flight was delayed until the morning, and the airline assigned the passengers to nearby hotels. The Doctor's Cave is the dump we were stuck in. Mosquitoes called the pool their home. Our room looked as if it could have been where a murder took place. The staff did not help us haul our luggage up two flights of stairs. The beds were remarkably uncomfortable. Sleeping on the airport chairs would have been a better option than their beds. My father called the main desk, asking for softer pillows. They declined his request. There was a sign in the bathroom that said at our REQUEST, the towels will be changed. Out of fear, my sister, 15, and I begged our father to keep a light on. We were informed the next morning by another couple there were cockroaches running around in their room. Another couple complained they lacked warm water. When we left the "cave," we were again forced to bring our own luggage. The staff was incredibly unorganized and unhelpful. The actual location of the hotel is in the middle of the town: it is not near a beach. Unless you like to take risks with hotels, I would NOT recommend staying here!

It's a bargain-OK
By Ree, 5/18/08
I stayed here in Dec 2006. I cried when I saw the room. I paid for room and meal package and was told that there was no such thing and ended up having to find an atm. Room was clean,tv did not work and they will give your guest a very hard time if someone comes to visit you. No activities at the hotel. Staff friendly but do not rely on the agent who schedule trips to Dunns Falls, your better off going down the street and asking the travel agent for help. Location was great. Rooms plain, but ok if your only plan to get in late and sleep. Ac work find and I see 1 or two bugs.

Great Location & Friendly Staff
By Christine M, 6/14/07
I am a well-seasoned traveller and have stayed in 5-star luxury resorts and all-inclusives. This is a decent hotel for the money. I think the people who wrote the negative reviews haven't travelled to the Carribean before and therefore don't know what to expect. The location of the hotel is great, across from Doctor's Cave Beach ($5 entry fee) and near many restaurants and shops. Beware people on the street constantly trying to sell you something or get you to go to the "Craft Market". We ended up at the market, and it felt shady/unsafe. For the hotel we felt it was clean and safe. I never saw a bug in our room, and only flies/mosquitoes/bees in outside parts of the hotel. Of course the service at the restaurant is slower than we are used to in the US, but that is just Jamaica. We had breakfast each morning and drinks in the evenings. Food prices are in line with other places on the island, maybe a little cheaper for some things. The Native and The Town House were our best meals - fancier than other places. The Dock on the beach is better than the Groovy Grouper.

I will return
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/24/06
I am from wv which is a very clean state and seeing various hotels which the majority was dirty with no hot water this hotel was clean, with hot water, and ac. No insects. If you get a hotel donot reserve it until you see it with your on eyes. They are not booked. The staff here provided us with whatever needed and a great bar. I had nothing stolen. It is located walking distance to everything so you don't have to pay a taxi to get ripped off. BEWARE US AMERICAN's the public will try to take advantage of you.

Poor
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/22/06
Doctor's Cave is a waste of good money. The reservations staff is either uninformed as to the hotel rates, or I am just unfortunate. While understaff, the little that they have are really nice. The hotel is in need of a MAJOR renovation, and new furniture is highly recommended. I would not stay at Doctor's cave again if they were offering the rate for a penny per night, nor would I recommend to anyone, not even my dog.

Very Poor
By Sherr, 7/3/06
The Staff at the hotel were friendly and welcoming, which is good, but they had no parking space, the rooms, gosh!, they were poorly kept, I found dead insects like fly and roach. I shower not cleaned properly with some black scum around it, The food can be prepared better and the waitress needs to listen more keenly to the orders they are taking, and not write down the order, take what they feel to take and then say I forgot. How can you forget an order when you have written it down? well I will never stay there again. for I all I know.

Great trip
By Denise M, 3/23/06
This hotel was located on the "hip strip" across the street from docter's cave beach which has no relationship with the hotel. The beach costs $5 and is well worth it they hav great service. The staff of the hotel also were very helpful although unorganzied at times. The bellman Leon is very helpful he will get you anything you need. When we arrived at our room the plumming didn't work and we had no remote for the tv but they were both fixed in minutes. The front desk booked us for four days then later told us that we would have to upgrade for our last night. At 6am our third day they said we would have to find a hotel b/c the upgrade was no longer available. In the end we had to pay the upgrade price and got to stay in our original room. The front desk was very confusing. Oh yeah don't use the phone in the room they charge an arm and a leg to go through the hotel operator and also the calls through your credit card are even more expensive. On the up side the rooms are clean and the ac works great. The pool is small but is clean. Overall this hotel is great i would recomend it to anyone who is looking for a resonible priced place with good quality. The setting of the hotel is like a rainforrest which is a great contrast to outside the hotel. Very Enjoyable!!!
