worst place to stay in Jamaica
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/28/04
It was my first trip to Jamaica with my husband, he made the bad mistake of chosing that hotel online, I think that he did not read the reviews on the hotel. My God, that place was killing me from the breakfast to the diner, what kind of food are they serving to people!!! The staff was completely indifferent, you seat for 30 minutes in a restaurant without seeing any waiter coming...... I would not ever recommend it to any of my friends. And the last night before I left I went to the bathroom and there were two big red cokratch running ....... (when I read here that the place is clean....!!). The beds are very uncomfortable, since they put two beds together to make one. It is ok that we were not paying for a five stars hotel, but there is a minimum they can do to satisfy the tourists. And this way they have to leave a note below the door of the room to remind people to leave before 12 pm is so vulgar, people who make reservation know normally when to leave, there is no need to push their back. .... I'm sure of one thing....we will never go back there again.

Spring Breakers Only
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/04
The location of the hotel on the "hip strip" and across from the beach is great but the hotel itself leaves a lot to be desired. Needs new bedding, has a small pool and seems to need a good "airing out". Great for people on a low budget and who won`t be spending a great deal of time in their rooms.

different
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/15/08
I travel to jamaica every year, but it was the first time ever to stay in a hotel. when we arrived at Doc's Cave Hotel my first thought was very nice!! when we got to our room which was pretty nice, but the only problem was it was next to the busy road so at night the traffice was real bad. We was given another room which ok. The staff there are amazing they are very welcoming an friendly speacially the bar tender Kenny!!!! Would i go back to Doc's Cave Hotel? Well only if the rooms were well up to dated with a much more modern look.

Very Poor
By Sherr, 7/3/06
The Staff at the hotel were friendly and welcoming, which is good, but they had no parking space, the rooms, gosh!, they were poorly kept, I found dead insects like fly and roach. I shower not cleaned properly with some black scum around it, The food can be prepared better and the waitress needs to listen more keenly to the orders they are taking, and not write down the order, take what they feel to take and then say I forgot. How can you forget an order when you have written it down? well I will never stay there again. for I all I know.

I always stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/04
I have been to Jamaica 4 tomes and always stay at the DOctors Cave. It is a simple, quaint hotel with a location that is unbeatable. The cafe has a wonderful breakfast menu and the staff are always very helpful. For the traveler who doesn`t care for the "all inclusive", the hotel is perfect!!

Good Jamaican Atmosphere
By TomK, 2/15/06
This is a good, rather inexpensive, place to stay if you want to be close to the action on the hip strip. Many bars, restaurants and several beaches are within an easy walk. It's not the place to stay if you want constant pampering, luxury, or 4 star amenities, it's rather plain and basic, also no security like the all inclusives. But, this place is right in the thick of all the activity! If you smile at the staff and treat them with respect and friendliness, they respond well. We got along great with all the staff. They helped make our stay enjoyable. We'd stay here again. Had a great time!

Poor
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/22/06
Doctor's Cave is a waste of good money. The reservations staff is either uninformed as to the hotel rates, or I am just unfortunate. While understaff, the little that they have are really nice. The hotel is in need of a MAJOR renovation, and new furniture is highly recommended. I would not stay at Doctor's cave again if they were offering the rate for a penny per night, nor would I recommend to anyone, not even my dog.

Not what I expected but nice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/04
I stayed at Doctors Cave not to long ago. The hotel was not what I expected, but turned out to be ok.....This was my first trip to Jamaica. We actually ended up having our room switched due to the many flying roaches and up-keep of the room.....but the second room was really nice(compared)! The bar and the pool were average and the hotel personnel were some what helpful. Doctors Cave Beach , a very beautiful beach(which cost $2 to get on) was located directly across the street. Basically a trip you had to make the best of....a lot of really nice restaurants near by and shopping as well. Probably the best features of the hotel were the pool(private and quaint) and the outdoor hallways that remind you of a tropical rainforest.....but I wouldn`t stay there again.

A Great Value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/04
As I have been to Jamaica on more than a dozen occasions, I consider myself to be a seasoned Jamaica expert. I recently visited the Doctors Cave Beach Hotel for the first time and was very impressed with both the hotel facilities and the staff. The hotel is very centrally located on Gloucester Avenue, which is referred to as the Hip Strip. There you will find the majority of restaurants, shops, beaches and nightclubs that Montego Bay has to offer. It was especially convenient for me as I am not an all-inclusive type. The Doctors Cave Beach is one of the best beaches in Jamaica. The hotel is very quaint and unique. I would describe it as a boutique property in that it has been around for some time, but the recent renovations have taken this colonial style property and given it a very "upbeat" Caribbean feel. The rooms are clean and well equipped. I found the bar and restaurant to be very affordable and enjoyable. The bartender "Richard" makes an unforgettable rum punch! You must try it, if you decide to go. One of the best things about the hotel is that it is small and intimate, yet offers a lot of facilities. I enjoyed having access to the freshwater pool and the Jacuzzi that they have located in the garden. They also have a exercise room, but I didn`t get to that! This hotel is a very good value and I certainly will visit my friends at Doctors Cave when I next visit Montego Bay.

It's a bargain-OK
By Ree, 5/18/08
I stayed here in Dec 2006. I cried when I saw the room. I paid for room and meal package and was told that there was no such thing and ended up having to find an atm. Room was clean,tv did not work and they will give your guest a very hard time if someone comes to visit you. No activities at the hotel. Staff friendly but do not rely on the agent who schedule trips to Dunns Falls, your better off going down the street and asking the travel agent for help. Location was great. Rooms plain, but ok if your only plan to get in late and sleep. Ac work find and I see 1 or two bugs.
