Great Resort!!
Well, where to start? Just got back last night from Brac Reef Resort and couldn't wait to write this review. First off the weather was less then ideal to say the least. Windy and cold all week. But I am still scratching my head as to how the staff at BRBR managed to make this a trip of a lifetime!! They definatly made lemonade out of lemons!! The dives were amazing, the guides were great and the staff was extemely helpful!
From the start, the check in was easy and quick. Polite people and thorough process. Darning our hoodies and shorts we set out to check in at the dive shop. Fast check in, got our dive bags to use for the week and got our gear together for the first dive in the morning. You need only to carry your wet suit and fins off the boat each day and carry it up in your dive bag to the "dry room". Your BC is taken care of all week. The "dry room" was locked up each night and actually pretty dry by the next day! They take care of the rest. Everything is right there. Dive shop, dry room and boats right off the same dock.
The dive guides are great! Menne, Helen and Mick were awesome! Safety was the focus all week. With detailed info on each dive site, complete with drawings (oh btw, Menne your reefs looked like twinkies LOL) and a thorough ideal routes from start to finish. Helen's added drawings of sea life that could be seen around the different areas of the reefs, was helpful!! Both Menne and Helen were great guides, easy to follow and helpful in finding the tiny things one might miss.
Fruit, water, snacks and dry towels were there after every dive and roll calls performed before leaving every site. "Valet" service to say the least! With boats fully equiped with all safety back ups and a design perfectly suited for divers, getting on and off the boat was diver friendly.
The most memorable sea life sitings for me was a huge octopus as we started on our decent at one site!! He didn't stay long once eveyone came down, but long enough for most to see this rare treat! Another amazing, first for me and my husband, was while floating at our safety stop. A "Comb jellyfish" of some sort! Complete with 2 "led lights" pulsing up and down in brillant colors!! The Grouper were oddly very friendly!! Letting most divers even pet them! Lobster and crab were not as abundant as in some other places we have dove, but if you were willing to look alittle closer with a light, they were there for some great pictures!
The rooms were very clean and cozy, room service took care of every detail. Although they advertise "cable" tv. Only a few channels come in good. But no matter, we really didn't spend much time there. Every night the Tipsy Turtle had something going on to keep us entertained! The food was top notch!!! All 3 meals are buffet style, and really amazing! Lots of choices and all very tastey! Do not miss the friday BBQ night!! All the dining room staff does all they can to accomadate all taste buds! If you needed something you didn't get, then you didn't ask!
There really is no snokeling from the beach. You need to talk to the front desk about the good spots to snorkel from. But don't forget to walk the beach in the early morning hours! I found lots of cool things right off shore to take pictures of!!
One last note, if you order room service? Invite a few friends! The portions are enough for a party! :) See BRBR again real soon!!!
