Sooo many places better for the price!!!!
By ,
I have been to Mexico five times and never have I stayed at such an out dated, overpriced place. The local is good for taking a bus into town. But it smelled like sulfur and sewer most of the time. Our rooms smelled of mold and the air didn't work in all the rooms. The food was the worst I have ever seen lots of mystery items!! I would recommend staying a little out of the city(15 mins) and get an awesome resort with all the updated amenities you deserve for the price. Try Marival resort in Nuevo Vallarta it is like a dream. I read everyones rave reviews before I stayed at Canto and now afterwards I can only figure these people have never stayed at a nice resort, I stress staying elsewhere. Even try the Riu or any other resort built in the last twenty years!!! Be for warned!!!!!

worn out resort................poor quality
By ,
this resort is very worn out.. not at all like the photos on the web, those photos are staged.. the rooms are like old cheap motels, the rooms are terrible...furniture should have been referbished years ago...bedding was clean.. but the food was the worst we have ever eaten...what was left over from one meal was made into another.. or soup....the staff were lovely..have to give them credit. But there were many locals there and the staff spoke Mexican non stop. The music and pool entertainment was minimal and in spanish..drinks were made of very poor quality liquor. If you are going to this place for any kind of night life forget it.. you have to go into town in a cab for a good meal, drink, entertainment which will cost you the same amount as you would pay in Toronto. I would truly rate this resort as a 2. This place is well worn out...boring for any boomers who want a little fun and music, dancing or a beach to walk on...it does not exist at this resort...8 from Toronto went and we were counting the days to come home....sad...!!!! Nothing to shop for, buy, no beach..very boring.. every one we met there felt the same about it....also cockroaches in the rooms....bring talc for the beds and traps for the floors...and a night lite for getting up during the night...fabric softner sheets for the cupboards, and plug in air freshner, you clothing will smell like old basements after a day or so... I would like to say some thing positive about this place but there is nothing good to say....horrible food. Horrible rooms. No beach. Boring....also the air conditioner is soooo loud you cant sleep with it on...

Good place for party people
By ,
Just got back and the hotel grounds were beautiful. We had a room near all the entertainment and it was very loud and hard to sleep. Very noisy place. The rooms were very old and could use some work. Was alittle disappointed. Weren't as nice as the pictures showed. Only one outlet in bathroom and no dryer either. It was clean though. People were very friendly there and very helpful. Its a great place if you like to party and don't mind noise. The beach was very small also. The food was ok. Kind of bland. I wouldn't recommend people going there to relax and have peace and quiet but otherwise it was an average place. I probably wouldn't go back there again. But I am glad we went and had the opportunity to see what it was all about. The town had lots of things to do and see. Location was good. Right in the center of alot and not far from downtown.

our second visit ..is our last
By ,
we stayed at canto del sol in 2005 and again aug. 6th to 10th, 2007. we had recommended c. d. s....to many friends. ...now the hotel is a ''child care hotel'' the pool, buffet, halls were filled with children. each day they would be running, screaming and having ....a grand time. the shaded lounges were all taken early in the morning by ..the families. they placed their towels on the seats and then ..did not use them ..they were in the pool for hours.. that made us wonder ..how clean the water was. we booked a balcony/view room. ..we did not get a blacony.. you must request ..again when you arrive. single people and couples should look elsewhere...if they want to relax. also....there is no live music or dancing. this hotel 'caters to families'.....they offer ''kids go free''. [that means parents do not pay for their children] and its... perfect for parents to enjoy with their children. [it makes you wonder.....who pays for the food the children eat] the food quality has gone down to ..bland we did enjoy the breakfast. but the lunches and dinners seemed to be the ..same each day. now...there is no steak, barbeque, carne asada or sea food [other than baked cod] or avacados at this hotel. last time we came....we even enjoyed.. ice cream/ and flan. but ...no more. the evening show [before it was by the ocean] has been moved ... to a inside tennis court. they had some fans to cool us...but not enough...everyone was sweating. we wanted to attend the shows..[they were good] but we could not sit through the heat. before they were beautiful ..outside ..under the stars. one day ...we had lightening/thunder and a heavy windy rain storm. the rain came inside the buffet dinner resturant causing the -roof tar -to come down on our table, and our food. the main lobby was flooded. the front desk/with computers/all the seats, couches and guests ..got wet. the management knows that there is a 'rainy season'. but they have not attended to building a ..cover over the lobby. there was 'no where to go' during the rain. the grounds were flooding...you could not walk from the resturant or lobby to your room. our room was on the 3rd floor of the hotel. our things ..[.that were on our floor]...like our suit cases, our shoes and gifts, some clothing...were all wet. front desk told me....that the laundry was closed .. [so they brought me a hair dryer to dry our things]. at the airport..we talked to people who stayed at ..other hotels.. their hotels.. had roofs and areas for them to relax during the rain... we love visiting mexico and have been to p. v. 6 times. ..he had hoped we would return to canto del sol... ....but it is not to be. barbra and michael of san diego.

Nice place to stay, But......
By ,
Where do I start? We had been going to Puerto Vallarta for many years, and stayed at some of the best places. After many tours and 90+ minute chats, we decided it was time to buy into a place. We liked the place and thought it would be a wonderful place for us and our family to enjoy for years to come. Well, After paying for our spot at the Canto Del Sol, in November of 2006, (It is now April of 2007) We find that we have never been treated as badly as we have by the management of this resort. It has been 6 months and we still have not been entered into the RCI program. We have sent leter after leter, phone call after phone call, only to be put off, ignored, lied to and now can not even get a return phone call or a confermation that we are on the same planet. you would think that after 6 months and $8,000.00 dollars that we could be enjoying our time in Mexico. NOT so much as a call back. We would not tell anyone to even think about buying, or at this point staying ot this resort. Our words can't say how totaly disrespected we have been treated by the management of this resort. Please, let our mistake in believing what we were told and what we would be getting be your sign. "BEWARE"... It was a nice place to stay, but save your money!!! You may never see it or get to spend a day enjoying the time you spent it on. This has been the worst experience in reguards to a "timeshare" that we have ever had. Whether we ever see any of our money again or not, we will sell the time we have bought and never tell another person to stay at at the CANTO DEL SOL.

we will return
By ,
My wife and I spent our honeymoon here in Nov. 05 and will return again, although the rooms were small and the fresh fruit in the room was old when we arrived and never was replaced for the entire 6 day stay. The hotel was very fun and the staff was also very plesant,.I will know next time to book my room far away from the lobby bar as the walls in the rooms were very thin, and the noise in our room was very loud untill past midnight.the beach was nice at the hotel although the vendors were like sharks and kept circling for your $$$,the drinks were strong and always served with a smile,,on the beach it was difficult to get coctail service unless you gave a large tip,the server never returned, all of the food was very good especially the santamaria restr.all of the excursions we took were very nice and worth the money,RYTHMS OF THE NIGHT is great for couples.all the watersports were also fun and most are included in your package, beware of the timeshare pitch on your 1st morning at the resort. take all the`vallarta adventures tours you can.My wife and I really enjoyed our stay but the hotel could be much nicer If more attention to detail was given .in a`4 or 5 star resort you should be asked if you need anything or how your stay is ,that is where this resort is lackiing

Not what I expected
By ,
This is my third time to PV. We always stay in Neuvo, big new resorts but quite aways from town.. but this time we decided to stay closer to town...so we could walk everywhere. I am not a picky person and do not expect alot but this hotel was second class. The waitstaff was not friendly at all. The food was not good and they never changed the menu. we ate out in the town almost every night so we did not get our money's worth. There is a wonderful place called Bogarts that has great food, warm atmosphere and if you eat there between 6 and 7 you get 2 meals for the price of one. My room was nice and clean and the air-conditioning worked real well. The outside restaurant had a palapa top and they closed it down while we were there to replace it so that made one less place to eat at this hotel. The only good thing about this hotel was the location. One more hint about PV right now..the timeshare people are paying us americans hundreds of dollers to listen to there timeshares. We went to 4 and they gave us $1300.

Not a 4 star, more like 2 star
By ,
Whoever rated this hotel as a 4 star obviously hasn't stayed at a good quality hotel. There was very little variety in the food department. Birds were drinking out of the pool which tends to make me thinking it hasn't got chlorine or such to kill germs. There was only one pool and everyone used the same pool, the children were all around where the drinking was going on and I overheard children copying the drunken adults. There didn't seem to be a separate place for them to have fun away from the adults. There were two bars, the swim up bar from 10 to 6 and then the lounge bar from 6 to midnight. There is no nightly entertainment other than the show, no dancing or such very boring. The ala carte's lacking atmosphere and food could have been better. There were no coffee makers, hair dryers or fridges in the rooms, and we were lucky to get water in our room. My husband spilt pop in the room and we noticed that the floor was never washed the whole time we were there. We had to dust our feet off before we got into bed because the floors were dirty. They were doing renovations in the next building to us and you could hear that going all day long. When we picked up the phone and asked for someone in English, they always hung up on us. Laundry was never picked up, finally took it over to a place to get it done ourselves. When I was sick in my room, I tried to order room service but it wasn't available that day. You couldn't get a coffee until the restaurant opened at 7:00am. The reception/lounge area is too hot and lacks ambience. The food was mediocre and lacked quality and variety, the same thing day-after-day. We talked to many guests and discovered that many were getting sick, I have travelled and this is the first time that I had people saying how sick they were. I personally got sick two separate times, first with a cold and then two days after that I had some horrible stomach problem. Most of the entertainment was done in Spanish which was very frustrating at times. All staff except the front reception desk were wonderful. When we booked our reservation it was suppose to be 15 nights and 14 days, we had to check out at 11:00 am and we didn't leave until 11:10 pm. They told us that we could pay an additional $75US for an additional 5 hours but what good would that do when we would be sitting at the pool for those hours? They let us use a room to have a shower for about 1/2 hour but that as it. I wouldn't go back to this resort again.

Jorge is an aweseom guy. Every time he asks people if they want a drink, and he does it. But i waited 5 minutes to get my drink from him. There would be conests. The poeple out there, were really awesome, including the bartenders. If any of you people, go to this hotel, tell "Leo" the bartender that i said "hi" to him, or "Alex" the chef,"Gliberto" the staff,"Chuyaua" the bartender.

Two stars at he most
By ,
Went on the 1st of Nov to the 8th of Nov.2005 Small rooms with limited storage space, old shabby furniture(worn out, paint rubbed off, drawers would not shut). Paper thin walls, could hear every time the rooms on either side flushed the commodes and as people talked in the hallway and I'm very hearing impaired. Very loud music from the pool all day long, even in the room. Not enough staff for the guests. Front desk never had more than one person no matter how long the line streached. Bars (only two, pool and lobby) sometimes only had one bartender who worked his butt off but there was 900 guests. Food was OK, service was spotty depended on who was waiting on you. People worked hard to keep up the grounds but it was superfical if you looked under the bushes there were straws and wrapers. The maids did a good job. When we sat at the restraunt overlooking the pool the low wall had dead dried catapillars there all week. There were children 6-8 and younger swiming in the pool and going to the snack bars without clothes and their parents were with them (parents were clothed). Lots of Mexicans there who could not afford bathing suites, they wore cutoff shorts and tee shirts in the pool. Staff was friendly and helpful just not enough of them. I had a good time in Puerto Vallarta and I will go back, but not this resort.
