Calinda Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo

This is not a knock on this particular resort but a general caution on Cabo itself. If when you leave you find yourself extremely short of breath, agitated, tense and or coughing and your doctor thinks you may have pneumonia be aware of Valley Fever. It is extremely prevalent in the area and if you are from a state north and west of the Texas/Arizona region your doctor may not recognize the symptoms. Just a point of caution.

The supposed shuttle only ran if there were 4 or more people. We could not get drinks the bar was closed for approx. 2 hours every day while they transfered the booze from one bar to the other. My diamond earrings went missing. We could not get towels or anything else for that matter. We went in 2003 and unless they fired all the staff they had employed i can not see anything improving. I did write a complaint to sunquest and did receive a whole 100.00 towards my need vacation. Will not be at Calinda

I have traveled quite a bit and I would recommend the Calinda as a great place to get away for couples and families. You can get to downtown Cabo, etc., via a shuttle that runs several times a day. The beach is secluded due to difficult access except from the Calinda or the resort next to it which means that the vendors that proliferate on most of the big resort beaches are not a bother. Regarding the pools, I've seen some comments about the pools being too shallow. I have friends that have timeshares in 2 different and expensive resorts. ALL the pools are shallow just like the Calinda's. For my trip I purchased the all-inclusive plan which was a super deal. The attractive room was large with a small balcony; however, it was not opulent; just nice. It had a refrigerator that was stocked daily with some soda, water and beer. The food and drinks were good and plentiful although if you like lots of restaurants to choose from the Calinda is not the place for you. The only small complaints I can think of are that the small hot tubs were not all/always hot and the desk clerks don't speak enough English to transfer a call from home to your room. If you are looking for a lot of crazy nightlife, the Calinda is not the place for you. I would rather travel to the nightlife if I choose than have it right outside my window! If I get a chance, I will definitely return.

..I love the little beach below the hotel... also the views from the dining room... the laid back atmosphere... and pool... swim up bar... and the jacuzzis with views.

My husband and I stayed at this resort for 10 days for our honeymoon. We were supposed to get an oceanview room with a king size bed, but when we got there they were out and took us to an oceanview room with two queen size beds and a living room area, so that was nice. They offered to switch our things the next morning, but we stayed there. The one thing that REALLY bothered me was that every day they would check the mini fridge in our room, eventhough we did not pay extra for it and did not have a key. (There was NO WAY we could get anything in it without a key) And the first 2 times they came to check they did not knock, they just barged in... mind you we were on our honeymoon!!! Other than that, it was nice, the food was ok, we did not choose the all inclusive which I am happy about because the food in the town was SOO much better. There is a restaurant called Mi Casa, INCREDIBLE, we went their almost EVERY day!

This is a warning to all! This place is way too expensive, infested with flies everywhere during the day & infested with isquitoes all night! The staff is rude & ignores you half the time, & last BUT not least, their a/c was broken! I missed my first fliht because their so-called courtesy van never showed!

The staff was not friendly at all. They catered to locals. The jacuzzis were dirty and the pool was full of kids that arrived on a bus for a day trip??? The staff did not know I could speak spanish and said not to attend to the gringos first but to the locals who paid full price. There was a sewer smell througout the hotel and the food was awful. You would think they would serve seafood, they served pasta. Never stay here.

We've been back many times over the years. The place out on the edge of a cliff with fabulous views and crashing waves. There is a nice safe little beach accessed by spiral stairs. It is away from the hectic pace of Cabo. They take you into town and pick you up.... The price is right. Bev from Phoenix

I really liked the location of the resort. I felt like I was in a suburban town since it is about 30 minutes or so from the airport It is very quiet and peaceful. And being situated upon a cliff really makes this resort a gem. There really isn't a beach area at the resort so you will have to go into town to have some fun in the sand. The staff is also very nice and friendly. I also had quite a few dislikes. There were two cats floating around. The cats seemed to appear whenever food began being served in the restaurant and were aggressive in getting their meal. 2 of the 3 jacuzzis worked during my 6 day stay. Furthermore, I watched the staff as they cleaned the jacuzzis. They took a broom and scrubbed the jacuzzi but did not let the dirty water drain out completely. The snack bar was open when I arrived but was never reopened during my stay at the resort. The cleaning ladies would open the patio door to clean but would not relock the doors when finished. This to me is a safety hazard. The cleaning ladies would also open the window in my bathroom when they cleaned but failed to close it when they finished. This was concerning because bugs or the lizards slithering around could have found their way inside my room. There was no safety deposit box in my room. Finally, of the resorts I have stayed, this was the worst menu I have encountered. Be careful when eating a hamburger at this resort, I do not believe it is beef! Overall, it is a cheap getaway and you definitely are getting what you paid for.

The Calinda- What an awful experience. I read on-line reviews that said the Gringos were sick...but I didn't think it was THIS bad! Let's start with the sickness- The reviews were right- We got sick (vommiting) on the 3rd day. When we got there and checked in there were some people down by the pools that actually had to call a doctor ($200 US) and have Cipro the extreme antibiotic prescribed (another fee on top of that!)We were paranoid beyond belief. We all think it was the food. Seemed to happen on the 3rd day in- just like clockwork. EVERY ONE WE TALKED TO WAS SICK!!! The hotel staff was nice- friendly. Maid service sporatic- but good if you stay on top of them. There were little microscopic bugs in our bathroom. Walls are thin...this is a cheap hotel. Remember you get what you pay for. Next- the food. Okay----Eggplant spaghetti? Not once but 2 nights in a row?!!?!? It seemed like the same dishes were served for lunch and dinner every day. (Pork? Mystery meat? Who knows.) The food was bad...really bad. Probably what got the gringos sick. This hotel caters to Mexican nationals. No wonder they didn't get sick. Once we stopped eating at the Calinda we were not sick anymore. TIP- Order Pizza from Domino's at the front desk. They can help you order it. Also, the Villa Serena Restaurant(kind of a hike towards the main road) was EXCELLENT. The delapetated sign throws you off but I assure you the food is excellent, the restaurant breathtaking and they even have a pool for you to use while you eat!! Next- Pools. Fairly clean. Not too bad. Hot tubs were gross. They had 3 unbrellas in the whole place. Get a jump in the morning and go to the pool to snatch one up. Another tip- The All inclusive package includes 2 small bottled waters per room per day. On our first day we took the bus (60 cents) and went to Cost-Co and bought 2 cases of water and Pepto Bismol and took a cab back. ($10 USD) TOTALLY WORTH IT! I do NOT recommend this hotel.
