Stayed here Summer 1964
By ,
My parents brought my sister and me to Acapulco on a driving trip from Shreveport, Louisiana in July 1964. I was 14 at the time. We stayed at the Boca Chica and I have the fondest memories of our few days stay at this hotel. My best time was snorkeling in the hotel's cove, diving amongst the sea urchins and starfish attached to the rocks. Looking at the pictures above, I see that little has changed in the appearance of the place from the old days. Our stay there was cut short however, when my older sister Martha sampled some "beach food" and contracted a case of the tourista that almost finished her off. A doctor came to the hotel and treated her unsuccessfully, so we made a run for the border with her white as death and throwing up all the way. My little taste of the sea on that trip inspired me to later take up Scuba diving and I have spent much of my lifetime now enjoying this pastime. My sister completely lost her taste for "weenies" on the trip and to my knowledge has never eaten one since. You probably aren't planning on driving to Acapulco as we did in those days. but an adventure is was.

Go somewhere else

The hotel is located in Acapulcos older zone, where it looks very unsafe. The hotel is got nice service staff but is as old as the location, it doesnt smell well inside the rooms and the bathrooms dont invite you to come in. The A/C is noisy and my wife was stomach sick after breakfast which by the way wasnt a promised buffet but a two eggs dish choice. Rigth next to this hotel theres a beach called "Caletilla" observed for contamination by the local health department. If you plan to stay inside the hotel you may be just fine, paying around seven times the price of surrounding places, but if you wanna go outside you may be too far from fun or to insecure. We only stayed a night.

Unless your a snob
By ,
My wife and I live in Mexico and know what to expect in Mexican hotels, if we want a good value. We have stayed in nice resorts in Mexico, but you have to pay exteremely high prices. If you want a place that is cheap and has a great view. Boca Chica is the place to go. I have read other reviews where people (mostly Americans) hate this hotel. So if you are not a snob, and are needing a cheap but comfortable, clean and above all cultural experience, then Boca Chica is the hotel to go to. Mostly mexican tourists, which we enjoy, and not Americanized like other parts of Acapulco. We live in Mexico City and like to visit Mexico Beaches when we get out of the city, not American Beaches. We love Boca Chica, and will visit there, everytime we are in Acapulco.
