Great winter escape for a family
By Brenda, 2/24/09
We stayed there Feb. 13 - 15. I used the coupon from their website and saved $30.00 at check in. Most of the activities open at 5:00pm on Fridays. We started the activities at 8:00pm and had plenty of time to bowl and get on the rides. That night we ate Axle Annies. It was empty....a few people at the bar and us. The food was good - kid's meal $6.00 and includes pop. My husband and I had a burger, fries, and cole slaw for $9.00 each. Our room was in the tower. The room was clean but there was a strange (stale) smell. I had to turn on the air conditioning to air out the room. I wish the table in the room was a little bigger.....too small to sit down and eat. The room did not have a hair dryer. Really missed that because I had to go out to dinner with my hair wet. The iron and board was in the ice dispenser room. Other than that the room was fine. I figured I paid about $150.00USD a night for 2 adults and 2 children (3 & 9) for entertainment and lodging. It was a great winter escape for our family. We did things that we had never done before as a family....played ping pong, swam outside in the snow, bowling, and sat in the sauna together. I took a small suitcase with snacks and pop. Since our room did not have a refrigerator I used the bathroom sink. There were a lot of families with coolers. Half of the families staying in the Atrium rooms were drinking beer and wine. We spent about $60.00 on games (I did not expect that - $15.00 each over 3 days). We ate at the Tree Room on Sunday. They advertise Brunch but I would skip it if your kids are fussy eaters. It was very expensive and my kids only eat the breakfast items. The Brunch items included mostacolli loaded with vegetables (onions, broccoli, etc.), potato cream soup, and other very adult items.

I've been going to Wheels Inn since i was about 10 years old with my family. Back in the day, that was the place to go. The last time i went back was a few years ago and was saddened to see that Wheels Inn is not quite what it used to be. The water slide is functional but needs some "surface" repairs. They've added on a new wing that tons of fun and they also have a bowling alley indoors and putt putt golf. Its not comparable to The Great Wolf Lodge but it is a decent place with its pros and cons. The rooms are a decent size and not badly priced, you can usually get a room around 80 dollars or more. I'd say thats a pretty good deal esp. if you live in the states, you get that extra little discount on the U.S. dollar. Its a fun place for the kids and family, even if you're kids are a little older. I woulden't stay more than 2 nights but if you plan on a night or two then it would be worth it!!

kids had a blast
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/12/06
The hotel is starting to show it's age. It hasn't been renovated in a long time. The pool was too crowded. The kids had a blast. I wouldn't recommend it for kids over 14. Most of the activites are made for young children.

The little ones loved it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/15/06
We had nice clean rooms facing the atrium by the pool tables. It was great to walk out the sliding doors to where all the action was (and worth the extra money). We arrived Friday afternoon and left Sunday morning and did not leave the complex at all. The children ages 3, 6 and 10 had a wonderful time on the slide and in the pool (which could be bigger)and on the Wild Zone rides and the arcade. Once there, your money goes for food (a little pricey)and for aracade tokens. The hotel staff was helpful and efficient. All in all it was a very enjoyable weekend for my family of six adults and three children. I have recommended Wheels Inn to my friends with small children.

It has been at least 5 years since I was last there. It was at time a safe and great place for a family.
By Agnes, 8/15/05
I loved the spa and the activities for the children. I live in Montgomery Alabama at this time. However, I can not wait to get back to Wheels Inn. The only thing I did not like was the sound of the train. I will always ask to stay on the Richmond side of the building. Oh, The beds were not that comfortable.
