Interesting to say the least
I had to go to Buffalo, and I always wanted to see Canada, so we made plans to stay in Hamilton, because it was in between Toronto and the Falls, 2 of our destinations.
The room was very cheap online, and it was a HoJo, so it seemed like a good deal. The rather large room had no temperature control and the TV was from the 1960's...it also smelled of smoke. The weather was perfect during our stay and we didn't plan on spending much time in the room so we were OK. What I did not like were the 2 seperate incidents with transients begging for money right outside the hotel. This shouldn't be...maybe they saw the US plates and knew we were out of towners. Anyway, we easily could have been mugged in the parking lot if one of these guys had a weapon. No security anywhere.
On the plus side, the pool seemed nice and the best thing was the shuttle bus from the front door to Flamboro Downs, a local harness racing track with slots.
Hamilton was a geographically good choice, but unless you are strapped for cash, I'd avoid the HoJo.
