The Algonquin Hotel & Resort, St Andrews

A disappointing experience. The "old" section of the hotel offers beautiful views in a fine location. However, the "old" section of the hotel is over priced, worn out and in need of great repair. The "old" section has air conditioning in the hallways, but not in the rooms! The furniture was ragged. The grounds are beautifully maintained and lovely as were the staff, yet the pool very, very dirty. The lounge chairs need replacing. The pool and poolside would be a great spot to relax yet repairs and a lot more attention to cleanliness is greatly needed. Stop for a drink on your travels, but be wary of staying for the night.

This is probably one of the worst hotel experiences we have had. This hotel is old, run down and in desperate need of a multi-million dollar renovation. It is a big hotel and clearly not making enough money to keep up with the repairs. The paint that isn't already peeling is badly scuffed up. Dirty, stained carpeting, beat up furniture and a filthy swimming pool complete the picture. There was internet access, but not WiFi, no desk either - just sit in a chair with your laptop tethered to the wall. The bathroom was clean, but with small sink (cracked), no countertop and tub, tiles and fixtures just as they were in 1970. We booked this room online and paid about $149. We slept for a few hours in a stuffy room (no air conditioning) and we couldn't wait to leave. The staff is friendly, but I certainly would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is a beautiful old hotel with charm galore. You can just picture the rich snobby NYC & Newport Elite who skipped over Bar Harbor strutting around with their 3 piece suits and sunshade umbrellas...It is a nice place to go and relax by the ocean take a deep breath, and let it out. Gardens were nice, staff very cordial, food & drinks were good. We were very pleased with The Fairmont Algonquin.

If you want a place to sit by the ocean on the North Atlantic Maritime Provinces and just take in the beauty and character of Hotel that just simply captivates you, The Algonquin at St. Andrews is the place. The location is so tranquil. The gardens so fresh and as you walk along the grounds and admire the views and the sprawling hotel before you, its like you step back to the guilded age with this impressive coastal destination. We had a short stay at The Fairmont Algonquin, however memorable. The service was very attentive to our needs. My Grandmother was traveling with us and needed a little more attention then we did and the staff at the Algonquin were assertive and anticipated some of these needs. The rooms were comfortable and furnished with modern and new furniture however each room was reflective of a hotel that was over 100 years old in design. So the size of the rooms were smaller, and if you are looking for a modern newer hotel this isn't it. However if these are considered deficiencies I would have to say it more than makes up for it in quaint turn of the century charm. The Restaurant at The Algonquin was average by Fairmont standards however the meals were delicious and I would rate the experience as Good. A fun place to take the family and explore the cold rocky coast of St. Andrews.

This elegant hotle, is one of the nicest hotels that i have stayed at. It is such an amazing place. The sort-of old fashion/newly renovated style works and makes this hotel so unique. I strongly recommened this hotel to anyone. The rooms are incredible....and hey...steven speilberg wrote "The Shining" here!!!
