Stay nowhere else in Vancouver!
By Steve, 09/09/06
Though this may not be the most elegant hotel, the overall quality, service, location and quirky charm makes it the only place I can imagine staying in Vancouver. I think the hotel has a new and an old wing. Ask to be placed in the North wing, and definitely ask for a water view (I had a view of only a grassy knoll). I was initially disappointed on entering our room (in the other wing)... small and kind of upscale-motel feeling. But, nice and fully equipped and quite comfortable. Enough for any traveler. What sets this hotel apart is the location on the artsy, edgy "island" of Granville Island (really not fully surrounded by water). The Granville Street bridge over False Creek (a wide and bustling waterway) looms large over the island... and I mean way-high up in the sky! It really dominates the feel of the entire island, which is actually quite large itself. And the former industrial and marine buildings converted to galleries, theaters, shops and restaurants make this a destination within a destination. You never need to leave the island! And I haven't even mentioned the Public Market! The best in produce, flowers and ethnic foods... awesome! If I lived here, this would be the only place I shopped for fresh food, sausages, seafood, cheese and sides. Finally, the Dockside Restaurant in the hotel, though not inexpensive, served up three fantastic meals and the waterfront patio served up beautiful panoramas of the city. There's a separate pub and a beer brewery built right into the middle of the hotel as well. This is a stop for many tours and tourists, and I was thrilled to call it my temporary home.

Probably would not recommend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/07/06
For the price we did expect nicer rooms, better food and service. The service in the restaurant was not great and the food was not that good either. The drinks were served in terrible glassware. The room was small and did not have much of a view. With the prices being so high for the room and restaurant, it is unlikely that I would recommend the hotel unless someone really wanted to stay on Granville Island.

Wonderful Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/08/05
Won't stay anywhere else but Granville Hotel when going to Vancouver, BC. Area is not far from Downtown area at all and Granville Island itself is a beautiful area. Close to the shops, arts, water... all of it. Service is great, clean, restaraunt is great, value overall is a deal. Rooms are comfortable and big.

By Elaine, 07/04/05
I wanted to be sure I had a view of False Bay and not a concrete wall when I reserved a room. Elaine p.s After the room change my daughter and I had a most enjoyable visit.

Best place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/27/05
The hotel is wonderful and the location is the best. Grandville Island is an enchanting place and this hotel is right on the island. You can stay here and not ever need to leave the island or use your car. The hotel is quite charming and the food is good.

We'll stay there next time.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/22/05
Granville Island is a great place to stay. The shops and markets on the Island are all within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel has an excellent restaurant and bar. The views from both are great. Good service, and the place was very clean. We will stay there every time we visit Vancouver.
