The General Lewis Inn, Lewisburg

my dad always wanted to stay here, as a born WVa born man, we finally did as a family...I was so happy for both my parents, both originally from grenbrier county. My dad sat on your famous rocking chairs out front and my mom "helped" us to enjoy all the history! The rooms were a tad warm for summer but so full of history, the staff was beyond wonderful and so was the restaurant. I, being born in the north, spent each and every holiday in this beautiful state and I would say, that most people, especially those from the northern cities, would find the calm most relaxing and the overall state beyond their imagination! Add this, the general *as we call it* to your list!!!!!!! Thank you General! Thumbs up!

Of all the Inns in WV, I love the General Lewis Inn the best. I have stayed there in Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall and have been delighted with the service and ambience of this beautiful place. I have read the reviews that the beds are hard but that isn't exactly true as each room is different and so are the beds. Every room is decorated in antiques and all have their own unique gifts to offer. I'm sure if you asked to "test" the softness of a bed before closing your door for the evening you would be welcome. You could change rooms if there is another one available. All the rooms have open doors unless they are occupied. Yes... it can be a bit noisy with trucks on Route 60 but that isn't a constant problem. I didn't notice it so much. A room on the back side overlooking the large back yard would correct that occasional inconvenience. I have the TV on down low anyway and can't hear any noise. I have found the bed in 206 to be quite comfortable. I can't say enough about the staff. To say they exceed expectations would be an understatement. Never !ever! miss breakfast at the General Lewis. Elizabeth is SO VERY sweet and always accommodating but ALL the staff are great and the food is down-home wonderful. Breakfast is the one meal I won't do without at the General Lewis. It's a great place to relax and unwind and at Christmas, it can make the most depressed get in the spirit. Haunted? It has been said that 206 and 208 are the places where the most "paranormal activity" is located. Well.... old buildings always hold a special treasure chest of charms. Embrace it or ignore it if you stay in 206 or 208... either way, you will be glad you visited. In the summer, relax in the rocking chairs on the front porch or stroll out back by the pond and dollhouse or just sit under the shade trees.. go for a walk downtown and visit the antique shops and great restauants like Julians and Food & Friends... just a walk away from the Inn. It's the perfect place to just get away for a while. For the hard core computer addicts.... there is wireless in the Inn and it's best on the porch and in the livingroom and in some of the guest rooms. All in all.... a place to remember and moments you will cherish. I do not work for the General Lewis nor do I live in Lewisburg, West Virginia and I am not affiliated with anyone there. I just know a great place when I see one and will return as often as I am able.

Nice inn, clean and charming. However, it is located on a main road where cars and trucks speed by so it does take away from some of the charm. Definitely request a room in the back of the inn, it helps.

There are so many elements that make the General Lewis Inn an especially wonderful and stress free experience. The key seems to be the staff - from the front desk help of Rhonda and Helen, to the patience of Elizabeth in the dining room, or the well informed housekeepers, you find yourself surrounded by folks whose hearts radiate the charm and gentility of the Inn. We really cannot emphasis enough how delightful it is to sit at the breakfast table, be visited by Mr. Morgan, and conclude our day with wine on the porch and a friendly kitty in our lap. They are in the business of providing excellent and sincere service, in a charming setting with delicious food - in short, the respite that we all need. We want others to enjoy the General Lewis, we just hope we can get back there in the near future!! Our appreciation for a wonderful stay, and do what we did - try several different rooms!
