Fabulous Place
By Sal, 8/26/09
Be sure you get updated reviews, hopefully in the year that you visit. Most of these reviews are old and we were nervous of staying there. Upon our arrival we were greeted with friendly staff and they offered to take our luggage to our room (for a tip, of course). We were very impressed with the marble floors and the architecture of the building. Our rooms were surprisingly spacious and in excellent shape. In our double bed room, we did not have a microwave or refrig but we didn't need them either. I presume we can add that for a fee. However, we were through priceline and got a tremendous rate, so we were not too picky. The food is good, but you have to keep asking for the waiter. All in all, we found this place to be equal to Hampton Inn quality. Next to the hotel is sams and walmart. IHOP is one light away. The shopping mall is 5 lights away. The pool is indoors and very public, so wear something modest. They have a whirlpool as well. We LOVED our stay! And we shall return again. I am soo glad they renovated it. Very clean, crisp, and no noises whatsoever. The only negative thing is that the air is preset and we cannot warm the room above 75 degrees. Bring your heater with you just in case. As we were departing, they were installed HD Flat screen TVs in every room.......great........We shall return in one week.

Stay was OK
By S, 7/7/08
The website was deceiving and apparently photos not changed in long time as we were specifically looking for an outdoor pool....when we got there, figured out the nice outdoor landscaping used to be the pool and now the pool is indoor and very public to everyone inside the hotel.... Also, the air-conditioning unit was horridably loud and never turned off! Was impossible to sleep with the fan noise all night long, so we turned the air-conditioning off so we could sleep and prayed it didn't get too hot in the room until the next morning. Lastly, hall noise with people walking to their rooms late evening, early morning hours was not well insulated so that voices heard very loud and woke us up both evenings we stayed.

Not worth money or words
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/1/08
The reason my title is this. The hotel is too old and is in need of some serious renovation work. the work being done now is sub par. The staff unit is in need of some new personell with a freindly demeanor. The room has some many patches, color different on the wall. Beside the ceiling. It has a mold and musty odor to it. In my opion is they just want your money and think cookies will solve the problems.

BUGS IN MY ROOM!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/07
I stayed at the Charlottesville Doubletree Hotel in July/2007. Not convenient location, unless you wish to go to Walmart or Sam's or purchase a car. These facilities are in the immediate area of the hotel. Another yet very important complaint is I had bugs in my room. I had noticed a black bug crawling on my son's bed and remnants of a bug on the wall above my bed. I brought this issue to the desk personnel and they gave me some cookies :( In addition, I brought this issue to the attention of Hilton/Doubletree Hotel customer service and there was no response to this issue--poor customer service! TQM? My opinion--I think not!

Troubletree
By homer, 8/10/05
This is a very tired hotel needing a complete overhaul. Had reservations for 8-9 Aug, 2005. Ditto to the other reviewer who commented about the cable being out and the staff not comping a movie. Went to our non-smoking room -- it reeked! The furniture there and in our next room seemed to have been acquired from a frat house. I so wanted to open a window -- the whole place could use a good airing out. The wallpaper in our room was all peeling/patched, walls very dirty, generally icky all around. The two pools are the nicest part. Of course, there were no towels, so I had to go request that from the front desk. Someone promptly brought out a few. Back to the room for a shower -- hair dryer didn't work. I ended up sneaking into another room and "borrowing" one. Staff was polite enough, though not very accomodating. We checked out after one night (had to give notice the night before) and moved to the Courtyard by Marriott at UVA -- very pleased with the Courtyard and recommend it (same price). I noticed a little card saying the Doubletree is part of the Hilton family. I suspect this one is from the Paris Hilton side -- overused and a bit skanky.

Not what you'd expect
By unavailable, 7/20/05
We went for a get-a-way weekend, and when we got there, we just wanted to get-a-way. The rooms were terrible. The 1970's furniture was old and wobbly. The colors very out-dated and dim. But the worst was that the bed linens were not only old and full of holes, they were soiled!!! Do NOT stay here if you are looking for a nice place to stay. AAA rated this a 3 star. It is at best a 2 star. Save your money and go someplace else, at least you have equal chance of getting clean linens at a motel 6.

Definitely will stay there again
By Jan A, 7/18/05
Close to restaurants, shopping mall, Sam's Club, Wal-Mart. Nicely appointed hotel. We got a romantic weekend getaway deal through Yahoo, including champagne in the room, late checkout, hot breakfast buffet Saturday and Sunday, all included for an excellent price. The service was average or I would rate it excellent. The front desk staff were friendly, but not totally together. We had called to tell them we would arrive late, but the champagne had been left in the room to get warm anyway. They forgot to give us our buffet tickets, so we had to go back to the desk for them. Late checkout was standard for the deal, but the housekeeping staff tried to make us leave earlier because it wasn't recorded on their sheet. The food at the breakfast buffet was good, but Sunday morning the place was chaotic and disorganized. To be fair, they had a large group in. Would do it again.

Not so Bad
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/18/05
The price was a little too high for the average room. The staff was very friendly and nice. The TV in my room was cheap- could have spent more on it considering the price of the rooms. Overall nice to stay at- for a night or two- stay for more than that I recommend a different place.

uncomfortable beds
By Bonnie, 8/30/04
The conference center looks great, the rooms look fine, until you try to sleep on the beds. They are very firm with no padding. We had to check out after one night to try another hotel. We were told that all of the beds in the hotel have the same mattresses.
