Boars Head Inn, Charlottesville

The Best! I have traveled all over the world and the Boars Head Inn is the nicest Resort I have ever had the pleasure of visiting....ALL of the staff are friendly and pleasant from the room cleaners to the waiters, waitresses, front desk personnel and groundskeepers. The owner/managers have done an excellent job in either training or "finding" the right people for their positions. Even as my husband and I were walking yesterday afternoon, the staff that were walking to their vehicles getting off of work, nodded their heads and wished us a nice evening....still pleasant after all of the long hours of working. Also, the shower was the best! I always seem to dread what the shower will be like when visiting a hotel/motel/inn. Good water pressure and great showerhead....the mattress was wonderful too...best nights rest I've had in a long time, even better than my own....must need a new mattress! Anyway, thank you Boars Head staff for a really relaxing enjoyable vacation....Oh I didn't mention the food....5 stars, every meal.....we will be back soon!

I have stayed at many hotels in Charlottesville over the years while visiting family in town, but Boar's Head has consistently been the finest resort and hotel in the area. The rooms are very charming and quaint, and the beds are the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in! The view is gorgeous...we had a view of the lake. The brunch is delicious and well worth the money at Old Mill Room. But, the best part of my recent stays have been receiving treatments at the Boar's Head Spa. The quality of the massages I've received from the therapists has been amazing. I also recommend getting a facial from Holly. Even when I've had to stay at cheaper hotels, I've made it a point to get treatments from the Spa at Boar's Head. The Boar's Head Inn can be a little pricey during the expensive seasons, but we have been able to get packages that include brunch, spa treatments, and reduced room rates, and it has been reasonable. Highly recommended!!

I am not one to complain, but I need to voice my opinion about this place. I made reservations three months in advance for a room with a view of the lake, and recieved one on the first floor (basement) of one of the buildings. That didn't bother me. What bothered me was the smell of mildew and the dirty bathroom. Toothpaste on the walls and mirror??? How is that ignored? The bedding was damp feeling all weekend and had stains. We ran the air conditioning the whole time hoping that would help with the smell and dampness but it didn't. The surrounding area is beautiful, but I did not feel spending over $200 for a room that smelled was worth the view. Go to the Omni! It is within walking distance of just about everything!

Girlfriend and I fell in love with Charlottesville partly becasue of the Boar's Head Inn. On our 2nd trip down from DC, we have never been treated worse. The 'manager' and staff could not accomodate us and acted cavalier when we brought it to their attention. It was so bad, we had to make other arrangements (stayed @ the Omni- great help, comfy beds). We are easy to please and rarely complain, but we will NEVER go back to the Boar's Head unfortunately and would never recomend it to anyone.

My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversay. The reservation dept was great. ask for philana, she is awsome. She knows the hotel pretty well. She put us on a custom package to meet out needs. The Old Mill Room was Lovely! The SPA was beautiful!! We have made reservation for our next stay!!!! GREAT PLACE!!

This is an excellent resort, whether for romantic weekends, business retreats, or family getaways. Nestled in Charlottesville, the resort is secluded, has it's own golf course, spa facilities, raquetball, pool, etc, Each time I've gone the service was impeccable from the room staff to the wait staff. The rooms are Virginia traditional, w/ big armoires holding large televisions, wonderful beds, tasteful in the design. There are numerous buildings, each done a bit differently, but all w/ the same elegance. Each meal, breakfast/lunch/dinner was to perfection. The Executive Chef is a true master.

What has happened to what used to be a truly exceptional place? Gone is the great service from management, gone is the idyllic environment. It's become a rather crass, highly commercialistic hotel. The main goal seems to be profit not service, at the expense of the guest.

My wife and I decided to make a quick escape from the ratrace of DC and took a scenic two hour drive to the Boar's Head Inn in Charlottesville, Virginia. We were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived and were greeted by not one but two doormen. Our room was comfortable and overlooked a scenic pond. We had arranged for spa treatments when we made our reservations. The spa had an instantly relaxing affect on us from the moment we arrived. My massage with Holly was one of the best I've ever had and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her pedicure from Debra. The Zagat's guide said dinner at the resort's Old Mill room was a "Charlottesville must" and no review could be more true. The service and food were outstanding. Be sure to try the open seafood ravioli appetizer and the Baked Rag Mountain Trout. We enjoyed one of the best nights of sleep ever. When we asked about the mattress at the front desk, the staff person told us guests actually buy the mattress because it is so comfortable. Charlottesville is a short escape from DC and is a college town with lots to do. Great wineries, Monticello, the historic downtown mall with great shops and restaurants and an indoor skating rink and of course the University of Virginia. The Boar's Head Inn is a great value and is located in the heart of this fun town. We would highly recommend it to anyone!
