Barclay Towers Resort Hotel, Virginia Beach

We owned at the Barclay Towers for almost 20 years and were very happy there. I realize that we probably received better treatment as we got to know the staff well. We found our suite clean and efficient. You must take in mind that these rooms are in use almost every week and some things (like the A.C) will on occasion need work. The usual response time was good. The parking situation could be better, but reality is that property is at a premium and most places will have large parking buildings. The location is excellent if you don't want to spend half of your time in the car. You are within walking distance of restaurants and shops, and there is always the trolley for longer jaunts.

The best thing about the hotel is the staff. The ones we came in contact with were very friendly. The worse thing about the hotel is the free parking garage they offer across the street from the hotel...shared with the LaQuinta customers. My brother parked his car in the garage after not being able to find parking in the front lot. His car was broken in to. The criminals did not break a window, or enter through an unlocked door. They obvisiously used some kind of mechanism that deadens the battery so they can get into the car without the alarm going off. Once in the car they stole registration information, speakers, tvs, etc. He's a young guy that enjoys fixing up his car so this was very devastating to him. Anytime someone steals from you it's only natural that you feel violated. As a business owner I understand how important it is to keep your customers happy. My brother is not happy so please Mr./Mrs. Barclay (unsure of the actual owners' names) do something about your garages! It doesn't matter that we received a really good deal on the room if we have to use it to fix up the car. The point of my posting is not to cause Barclay to lose business but to help you be safe should you stay here. If you happen to know the owners of the Barclay Towers please pass the word along. They need better security measures in their garage. PS .After the incident with the car we were told we could have parked in the private garage where there are security measures. I would suggest you park in the front of the building...leave the garages alone. Be Safe!:)

I read the horrible reviews online before I booked but because the hotel is inexpensive I decided to book it anyway. I figured, I spend most of my time at the beach anyway, who cares about the hotel? I learned my lesson. I had called ahead of time letting them know we would be needing a crib as soon as we arrived and was promised one would be set up in our room. Not only was there not a crib in our room, but when we went down to the front desk to request one we got a dramatic eye roll about it. From then on the hotel and its staff began showing their true colors. The Hotel is out of date but more so it smells. The cleaning staff vaccuums when they feel like it. And I don't think we had clean sheets since the first day we got there. With a baby, the trash fills up quickly and one day they didn't empty our trash bins at all. We called the front desk and she told US to empty the trash and place it at the end of the hall. The next day, still no one showed up to collect the trash so I asked for an explanation because by this point I felt it was going too far and the receptionist just shrugged. There is a hotel connoisseur in the lobby but what they're really trying to do is sell you time share and they will do whatever it takes to try and trap you everytime you pass through the lobby to go out to the beach. On every floor the vending machines were broken. The continental breakfast was very cheap and not fresh. The fruit was bruised and the hard boiled eggs were green. The staff was kind enough to greet you as long as you didn't need anything from them. The indoor pool was nice and clean and of course the beach was the best part. We've been all over on vacation and never once had so much to complain about before. I knew going in it wouldn't be the best hotel because of the money I spent, but there is no excuse for laziness and filth. We love VA Beach and are going back this summer but staying somewhere else. All these memories came back while I was looking at other places. Don't let the prices lure you in like it did to me. I overlooked the bad things people said only to find out they were right! I wish I listened.

After reading the negative reviews we were concerned about staying at this hotel. Stayed during Memorial Day weekend. The check in staff in the A.M. on 5/28 were very nice and helpful. The P.M. staff seemed more concerned about talking among themselves but did take time to give us driving directions. The room was clean and saw NO bedbugs. Ran out of towels and washcloths after night one but inquired about getting more at the front desk and they were delivered to the room before we returned the following afternoon. Small balcony but any size is nice when you overlook the ocean and boardwalk. It was a very nice suite including stove and refridgerator but would prefer that the bedroom overlook the ocean versus the sitting room. The pool and hottub were nice and the area was kept clean. The soda machine on our floor (#5) was out of order our entire stay. Noticed other floors had a peculiar smell during my soda hunt but our floor did not have the same type odor. Air conditioner worked well but made a very loud noises when running. Did not hear alot of noise from the street or other noises through the walls. We went through Expedia to book our room at a discounted rate and were satisfied and rate this stay maybe a 6.5 out of 10. Although we were very near to alot of restaurants our favorites were Cpt. George's, Harpoon Larry's (great place to go everytime we visit,) and Mary's for breakfast (a short drive to 17th street but great food and value!

Introduction: The pics online on their website did not justify the beauty of our suite. Very spacious and comfortable. We arrived on valentines weeked and stayed four days and were very satisfied. Me and my companion were ocked to open the door and to discover all of this. LIKES: *The spectacular view from the living room window and awesome balcony. *The HUGE king size bed that was beyond comfortable/ awesome for adult activities ooppps.. *The fully-equipped kitchen and the price for such outstanding accomadations *The spacious bathroom plenty room for two. The flat screen tv located in the bedroom was a plus. *the views from the 8th floor were superb. The way light comes in your bedroom and no one can see in your room and how you can see over the city from outside your room door. The glass panaromic view outside your room door is awesome!! Dislike: *having to park across the street at the quality inn hotel when spaces were filled. We partied on Saturday night and had to walk our intoxicated bodies across the street in the cold 3 am. *That room service constantly knocked on the door and even almost barged in on us at like nine in the morning. *that the pool was closed due to renovations during the weekend of valentines what an incovenience *That you could not smoke on your own DAMN Balcony!! Overall we had a wonderful romantic, exciting, enchanting stay at this hotel great location we normally stay at the north end by King Neptune statue but I like that south end of the beach better. We can't wait to go back and party at Guadaljara on general booth awesome place love the music and eat at Corner pizza after hours just great we love virginia beach!!

Booked a room at the Barclay in VA BEach as a whale watching package. Our room had toothpast on the curtians, hair around in the bathroom and our first night back home we discovered that we had brought home bed bugs from the hotel. The hotel responce is to do nothing.

My daughter's wedding was held at the hotel. The wedding party had about 10 rooms booked. The rooms were excellent, clean and very spacious. My problem was at the reception. The room was beautiful, the food excellent. However, at the end of the evening we found the wedding cards (with money inside) had been stolen. Luckily, one of the guests was a secret service agent who called the police (staff was reluctant to do so). After a thorough search, empty envelopes were found in the kitchen and the dumpster outside (used by the kitchen staff). The money was never recovered and the hotel has never made any effort to contact my daughter regarding this. They sent a survey asking about their service and she noted what had happened and still no word from the hotel. I visit my kids in VB often and had planned on staying at this hotel, but will not, because I don't feel safe knowing a thief works there. Given that $1000's were spent there by guests and the bride and groom and not even an apology from the management was given, they've lost my business.

We stayed there for 8 nights. We had a wonderful stay. We were on the 6th floor. A little high for me so our next visit we will be lower. My only complaints are that the kitchen supplies could be more plentiful and we had issues about the cot we needed extra in our room. But other than that, we loved it there. The bed is huge, the bathroom is big enough to leave supplies in there, kitchen has coffee pot, oven, stove top, microwave, fridge and freezer. We cooked in our room every day. Had fresh towels every day, room was picked up and swept daily. Maids were friendly. Breakfast is included downstairs every morning. The price is great for location too. We are only about 7 min. from my sons base. We are going again in oct. of 2009. And we will probably stay here each time we go to visit our son.

The hotel was a good bargain. It was clean and was comfortable. The tv was out for 2 days because of the Hanna, but finally got working.

The Management was responsible for having our vehicle towed, When the tow company pulled our vehicle from Barclay's parking lot with Barclay parking ticket in plain view, when towing co. called the hotel, They didn't even have us listed as a guest when in fact we had paid for 4 days at their motel, My husband had to walk 3 miles to get our vehicle . We have a copy of the tow trucks ticket & on the ticket it plainly states that the management had the vehicle towed & it was also BarClay's Towers mess up. The management said that all they could do was give us one night free for the mistake . They totally ruin our VACATION. We had 2 children with us that was very upset, we had planned on going out that evening to dinner, needless to say that didn't happen. We checked in on Aug.13th,2008, & paid for 4 nights, on Aug.14th Barclay Towers had our vehicle towed. Needless to say the rest of our stay was totally ruin never knowing if when we went to get in our vehicle if it was going to be there or not. Barclay Towers would not refund any of our money that we had paid for the rooms , only one night did they give us for free, & I don't feel like that was enough---- We will not stay at there Hotel again. Whom ever reads this please beware that this could happen to you also.
