10 reviews for Stowehof Inn, Stowe
July 2009 Wedding
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/09
We have been to Stowehof Inn several times in the past and found it a lovely setting, albeit 'a dowager going gently downhill.' In years past the service was gracious and the food was imaginatively prepared and beautifully presented. The hotel is no longer under the same management as in those times. Imagine our dismay when we held our wedding there only to find an untrained and disinterested staff, poor service [coffee makers but no coffee in the rooms, torn drapes, no overnight staffing, a ‘full country breakfast’ that was cold and greasy - no fresh fruits or ingredients offered nor available at breakfast - and so on], and a catered wedding brunch where the food we contracted for was replaced with inferior quality, shoddily presented, less than adequate amounts, and the [open] bar was opened BEFORE our 11:30 ceremony, not after. As well, the hotel did not inform us when we reached our contracted-for bar total, causing a higher bar tab without our permission]. Although our day was not to be dimmed by these shortcomings: still a lovely wedding, beautiful setting, dear friends and family, joyous occasion, we cannot recommend this Inn for special events. The disinterest, lack of customer service skills and courtesies, and professionalism among the staff is shocking. A bright note: one or two of the 'old' staff are still present and their graciousness and cheerful helpfulness deserves a resounding thank you! As well, special thanks to the wedding planner who did her best to make this a lovely day despite the aforementioned problems.

Awesome October wedding!
By Greg S, 02/02/09
We had our reception there in October, 2008, and all I have to say is FAAAN-TASTIC! The staff rocks, the Inn is perfect for receptions (we had just about 100 people), and we'd do it again in a heartbeat...we even had our guests, who travelled in from all over the East Coast saying that they'd be return visitors, now that they know what VT is all about.

Not Recommended!
By Pete, 01/03/09
The rooms are nothing like the pictures. It's more like a run down motel that hasn't been renovated since the 70's. The beds are lumpy and old, worn carpet, tiny tv. The hot tub was out of order and the pool door was shut with the lights off. The "Country Breakfast"? cold rubbery scrambled eggs, undercooked bacon, cold french toast and pancakes, crappy coffee and watery oj. The staff are unfriendly and rude.

Magical winter
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/12/08
The inn feels like a great mountain home. It is nice to pretend you are sitting in your own living room. The food is exceptional. Its a great spot tucked away and quiet.

Not happy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/18/07
Was not happy with the room. Run down, and outdated all around. I like rustic, homey, wood trim and fire places. But this is warn carpet, rusty toilet, paper thin walls, youth hostel. Staff non responsive during stay and unresponsive and rude after the fact to hear your concerns. But they will take your money. I hear the food is OK.

Worse than blah
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/18/07
We stayed in the room in the pictures. Sort of nice but the bathroom has water staind on everything and seems straight out of the 50s. Carpet through out the place is industrial and extremly warn, the lock are quirky and probably 50+ years old. Staff disapears at night and sound isolation is terrible. The place is just run down. It is ready to be converted to a youth hostel. The location is beautiful and breakfast was not bad. But they advertise much more than locaiton and breakfast.

a true vermont vacation
By JasonC, 05/11/07
We visited the stowehof, in Febuary of 2007, and I must say it was truly the most relaxing vacation I think we have ever had. The lodge has very cozy charming atmosphere, with a great group of folks that run it. the views are incredible and the surroundings very peacful. The service is excellent, with a full service resutrant and seperate pub in the lower level. We had a great time and will be going back soon, I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area. And for anyone that apreciates an enxcellent drink, the true irish bar tender made me some of the best I have ever had.

A perfect anniversary trip!
By JoeC, 02/05/07
My wife and I recently stayed at the Stowehof for our anniversary and we could not have been more pleased. What a perfect place to stay. We found the Stowehof after an exhaustive search via the internet of places to stay in Stowe. God must have been smiling down on us, because of all the places that we considered; the Stowehof was the only inn that we were looking at that was (unknown to us at the time) actually off the main road and nestled on a hillside overlooking the valley. The place reeks with charm. There is a huge living room with floor to ceiling picture windows and plenty of comfortable sitting couches and chairs to enjoy the view. Multiple wood burning fireplaces, hot cocoa and coffee is available all day long. They even have sleigh rides during winter months that pick you up at the front door of the Inn. They have a closet full of board games, cards, puzzles and a large book selection for reading pleasure. They serve a complimentary (full) breakfast for their guests each morning with hot cakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, and sausage along with an assortment of cereals, fruit and other cold options. While we did not eat dinner in the dining room, the selection was good and other guests were raving about the food. They have an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna. Also, down in the pub, there was a large flat screen TV and pool table. I thought the only thing missing was internet access (wife was not wanting me on the net anyway). The Inn is too far out in the hills to get a good wireless signal, so even my normally reliable broadband card would not work. The "office" had wireless access that my PC could find, but of course it was encrypted. Your only option was to use dial-up out of your room. A wireless router located in the living room would have been nice. I would have been willing to pay a daily or weekly rate for access, but it was not to be. Even without net access..suffice to say, it was one of our most memorable trips ever...We will be back!

Loved it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/24/06
We have gone back to the Stowehof over the Christmas holiday for the last 3 years. Every year they go out of their way to make it a little different. It's always friendly, fun, and welcoming. Lots to do - pub, restaurant, hot tubs, etc. Right near the mountain for Skiing. We'll go back again next year! Highly recommend to everyone.
