Mixed review
By Daniel, 1/8/12
We have been to the Sandcastle three times now, all during mid-summer and have had fairly good service and the accomodations are clean and well-kept in the condos we had rented. The only complaint we have had was this past summer when our condo was not ready at check-in time. Like another posting, there were apologies, no discount, just an hour wait past our check-in time. These condos aren't cheap, and we expected to at least check in and begin our vacation on the date that we arrived and on time....just like our payment was expected for their accomodations.

A recent review...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/11
We have stayed at the Sand Castle three times over the last 5 years. It's a beautiful place, right on the beach. The pool is spacious and the grounds are usually clean. However today our check in time was at 4:00 and we couldn't get into our room until 5:30, no apologies for the delay. I tried to stay positive, but once we finally entered our room....it didn't look very clean. There are four if us and only two towels that don't smell very clean at all, the bathtub is pretty dirty, our bed doesn't look like something I'm waiting to crawl into after a long day, and the kids pullout sofa sleeper had a sheet on it, but again..I'm not sure if its been changed lately. We have decided to stay here because it is my 10 year olds favorite place in Port A.. it doesn't offer a continental breakfast, its a bit more expensive bc its conveniently right on the beach. Today I wanted to clean up and unload our stuff before going to Port A Pizzaria (the best) but the lady at the desk said we might not be able to get into our room until 6:00...no discount, no apologies and then as we drove in I noticed the laundry people had a pile of dirty ( I hope) laundry hanging over their cart on the ground in the parking garage... I should have squeezed that into my comment earlier. But all in all I think its time to find another place we like. I just wish it was cleaner and the staff was a little bit more courteous and then i might not be so discouraged....this is just my opinion, and my experience... We have stayed in other rooms here before that were decorated cute and very clean,...not the sake story today...

Owners of #207 should be horrified of their Condo!
By Pam, 8/7/11
The entire condo is full of mold, ceiling to floor. It smells awful and made it impossible to sleep because of the horrible wet, smelly feeling. The whole ceiling is covered in mold as is the carpet and flooring in unit and bathroom. Shower soap is broken. Hole in the wall in the bathroom. Refrigerator covered with mold and is barely standing. The small closet light wouldn't turn off. The cheap white plastic chairs on patio weren't fit to sit in either. The carpet is so badly stained and it smells also. The love seat wasn't fit to sit on and is torn along the entire edge. All in all, whoever owns 207 needs to see what it is their condo looks like and take it off market. Perhaps the management at SandCastle needs to have higher expectations. I've never been so glad to be home in my life. I just didn't feel clean the entire stay and sure wish I had my $500 back.

We will be back soon!
By Betty, 8/5/11
I love this place, we return every year (for 6 years now) in September during the off season. The one bedroom condo's are a great price and very nice and clean. We have never had any issue with management and have been treated great, staff is very friendly. Location is great, very close to town and just a stroll away from the beach. Look forward to our week stay there next month!

A horrible experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/22/11
he Sandcastle building is rusty, wet, moldy and disgusting. The carpeting in the halls was revolting, the windows are covered in corrosion, rust and mold. UNIT 110 smelled of mold when I walked in. Then I discovered a family of birds living in the air vent near the bed. After several calls to maintenance who came up & heard the problem but couldn't do anything about it... I then called the owner, Carole Little. I told her I can't sleep here as the birds are so noisy. She apologized for the inconvenience & when I told her I will have to find other accommodations she agreed to split the 3 night cost in half with me, as I had paid in advance. HOWEVER, when I returned home she pretended we never had that conversation & refused to refund me for half of my money. She refunded me for only one night, not the agreement we came to on the phone. Seriously. Not only avoid THIS unit, but any rental owned by Carole Little.

Great Condos!!!
By Staci, 5/9/11
These condos were very clean, and affordable. We loved the pool, and just a short walk across the bridge to the beach. We can't wait until our next trip to Port Aransas.

Best place in Port A!
By Michelle, 7/14/10
We've been here three times, all summer, with various groups of families and friends, and it's been wonderful each time. It has to be the biggest pool at Port A (plenty of shade two for the grandkids!), the two hottubs are huge and always work (and host an amazing cast of characters to visit with, esp. late at night), and the views (esp. the rooms with beach/pool views) are to die for. You can see exactly the view from ur room with the webcam of each unit on the hotel's website...gives interior views too. Teh furniture is pretty, decor in rooms nice, beds comfy.. some rooms have queens some kings-- a few murphy beds so if you don't want that specify. also some have couches or futons so you can have more folks in to sleep over. Covered parking for some cars (if you get there firstI), nice laundry room if you stay awhile (close to pool so you can sun while you wash!). Front desk folks nice. Check out how cheap it is to stay for amonth after Septl 7...may have to do that! It is hot over the summer at Port A but the beach is right down their boardwalk, which has an amazing turtle pond just FULL of huge turtles that swim up to be fed! Close to the action in Port A (restaurants and pier)I but far enough out to feel a little more on the wild side than say the Dunes. We set up our UT canopy on the beach at the end of the boardwalk and left it all day...came and went and nobody bothered anything. I would definitely recommend taking shade!!! Let's all pray oil doesn't hit our beloved port a beaches! p.s. while ur in town, check out my cousin's wonderful homestyle cooking at frankies kitchen on tarpon st., across from Tarpon Inn, open fri through sun 7 a.m. to 3 pm. breakfasts, desserts, seafood, meat loaf, chicken and dumplings, etc. to die for! I'm surprised no one else has written in anything lately about Sandcastle...maybe we're all being greedy about a great find, but heck they've got a lot of rooms! They do book early tho I've noticed, but some of the nonpool side (southern exposure) rooms have a great view of the beach and a kind of new englandly landscape of marshes and cool painted beachhouses....these lesser views seem to be available more often. Of course avoid the parking lot views! The front desks folks are nice and are knowledge; we rode out the hurricane and they kept us from worrying too much! (had tequila and played Texas Hold 'em with all the folks in our party...who were in four separate rooms....while we watched the water obliterate the beach road! A little scary!) Anyway, for goodness sake stay here, have fun and tell 'em Michelle from Austin sent you!

We want to go back very soon!!!
By Josie, 2/23/09
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary this weekend and booked 4 rooms at Sandcastle so that our kids could join us. We were very impressed and happy we chose Sandcastle. All staff was friendly and helpful especially Jennifer at the front desk. Thank you Jennifer for making this weekend one we will never forget. We booked a 2 bedroom, a bedroom deluxe and two 1 one bedrooms and all were great rooms. We highly recommend Sandcastle you wont regret it at all. Hot tubs were great the pool was big and clean too bad the weather was not warm enough to try out the pool. All our rooms were very clean and we got clean towels every day we were there. Everything in the rooms was working like the appliances, hair dryers, A/C, televisions. We cant wait to go back again. Zamora Family from San Antonio, Texas
