Could use some "cosmetic surgery" . . .
By petfriendly, 01/09/10
My wife & I spent 4 nights at the Opryland hotel over the New Year Eve weekend. We are repeat visitors. Our experience with the check in desk was wonderful. We found them the be very friendly, cheerful, helpful yet professional through our process of checking in & out. The housecleaning staff mostly is extremely limited in the English language but always smiled & said hello. Our atrium room view was once again was simply beautifyl. We enjoy sitting on the balcony, watching the people and enjoying the beauty of the gardens. Our room & beds were clean however we did notice that the hotel is in desire needs of a comestic upgrading. Both inour room & hallways we noticed many places where the wallpaper was torn or coming off the wall. The carpets are in major need of a good cleaning especially in the high traffic areas. We feel the $15 dollars a day plus $18 a day to park is a bit to much considering the atrium room are in the mid to high $200 dollar range. We will most likely return and are in hopes we see some "face-lifting" in much needed areas and Please Gaylord - think out omitting the $15 & $18 dollars a day additional charges and don't increase rates. It would be nice to see incentives for returning guest.

One Word: BAD!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/31/09
nothing was more disapointing than my stay at the Opryland. Reservations staff was very rude and basically wanted the credit card number more than anything else. This should have been clue number one. The second cue should have been when I received the email confirmation and my name was misspelled and the arrival date was wrong. When I called back to have this corrected I waited on hold for over 45 minutes only to have the most incompetent agent answer the phone who had to put me on hold to ask her manager how to change a date. Check in at the front desk took nearly an hour and a half since a very large convention was obviously taking place. The front desk clerk was rude, surly, and barely spoke more than 10 words before handing me keys that didn't work when we got to the room. After waiting for 30 minutes for security to let us in he tells us we have to go back downstairs to get new keys. we ended up having to wait 30 minutes more for those. bellboy took over 2 hours to bring the luggage and didn't smile, say a word or do anything other than drop our bags at the door and hold his hand out for a tip. the room was outdated and disgusting. dried urine on the toilet, hair in the tub, the carpet had obviously not been vacuumed, no hand towels or washcloths. no toilet paper, no fridge as promised by reservations, and the front desk refused to move us saying they were sold out. when we finally were able to get ut of the room and go to dinner, all the restaurants were booked and wait time was 1 hour. we ended up walking over to the mall and eating there. we had to do this anytime we wated something to eat because of this large convention group. the shops were staffed by incompetent clerks who couldn't use the register and tried to short change us, she didn't even apologize, she did sigh though since she had to reopen the register... trash sat in the hallway for the three nights we were there and no one bothered to dispose of it. the smell was so bad that when callled down to have it removed we got to wait on hold for 25 minutes just to be transfered somewhere else, who then transferred us back to the operator.... on the final morning the bill slipped under the door was wrong, we were being charged double for parking and had restaurant charges for places we didn't eait at because we couldn't get in!!! after arguing on the phone with the front desk for 15 minutes a manager finally removed the charges this place is a joke. even though the price indicates excellence, substandard is what you receive. We will never go back nor recommend. It is definitly worth it to go there and walk around, but we could have stated somewhere else for 1/3 the price and had a much better room and service quality.

SCAM!!
By Jennifer, 12/23/09
BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! IS GAYLORD SCROOGE? We took Celeste to ICE at Gaylord today. We purchased tickets (2 adults/1child) online through Gaylord, who is using “Vacations Made Easy” this year. When we arrived, our tickets were not available, AND we discovered that we were hooked for THIRTY EXTRA DOLLARS by going through Gaylord’s site. Supposedly, no one can do anything about it. PLEASE BEWARE AND TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!!!!

Horrible Experience: Couldn't wait to go home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/09/09
My three sisters and I stayed at this hotel on 12-5-09 and the visit was absolutely horrible. However, I must say that the hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays and impeccable. Our first snafu came upon entering our room for the first time and other guests luggage was noted on the floor. All four of us had to wait in the hallway while other visitors passed by while this matter was resolved. This matter was taken up with the manager on duty and she gave us vouchers for the inconvenience at the Water Edge buffett. Needless to say, I would have rather received the room for free or a discount since we paid nearly $400.00 for one night at this hotel. The buffet was horrible the chicken was raw and the shrimp and angel hair pasta was overcooked and flavorless. The room was just okay for what we paid to stay in an atrium room. The hot water took about 15 minutes to warm up and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. After check out we had to wait about 45 minutes for valet personnel to bring our car. When the young man was asked what took him so long we were told that the car would not crank. We find that very hard to believe since no one approached us about this mishap at anytime while we waited in the lobby for our vehicle to be brought to us. What was even sadder was that radio station on the car was set to a different station that we were listening to upon arrival, it was on a sport's station and the Tennessee Titans were playing. Go figure!! I would visit this resort, but I would never recommend for anyone to stay over night. We couldn't wait to get out of there to get something good to eat. The restaurant across the street has the best catfish in town.

Best of the best worst of the worst
By Travel, 12/07/09
The gardens in the atrium are beutiful we spent hours walking through and enjoying the thousands of lights and decorations. You will get lost but if you are not in a hurry its ok plenty to see. Now the Bad. We ate at a restaraunt called Stax were we paid $10 for a cold hamburger. The check in staff are very hurried and rude. We ate a breakfast buffet pretty good until the check arrived $40 for 2 breakfast not including tip. And the very worst of all when my wife and I arrived home we discovered we had head lice. YYou may want to visit this hotel and enjoy the atriums but you would probably be better off staying at the days inn.

Liked the Opryland grounds except......
By Diane, 12/06/09
We loved the opryland experience. The property was way over the top in holiday amazement. The front desk associates were lacking terribly in helpfullness and holiday cheer. My suggestion to anyone going to this gorgeous place would be the check their beds before they climb in. We discovered dirt dried blood on our sheets. The bed had not been changed before we checked into our rooms. Talk about a health hazzard for a first class hotel. We were totally disgusted. The bed was actually remade the next day and not changed. It took a manager to actually act upon our request to get the bed changed. I was never so horrified in my life. My suggestion would be to definitely visit this property. It is a chance of a lifetime to see the beautiful grounds. Plan on spending the night at a hotel that believes in clean rooms and clean sheets. We actually went out and bought our own sheets and blankets to use during our stay. I'm sure there are other first class hotels in the area that have put a major regard to the cleanliness of the rooms a priority. Dirty sheets with blood on them is totally unacceptable in any situation. Change the beds. They are as important as the plants in the atriums.

Very surprised!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/09
After reading the reviews on this site prior to our trip I have to say I was nervous. However; we were very surprised and pleased with our stay. We had a large group (11) attending a national conference here and everyone enjoyed themselves. The facilties for the seminars were very nice and well-equipped. Yes, the prices are high (and a little more variety in menu/restaurant choices would be nice) and it is HUGE so there is the maze factor, but in our case it was actually kindof fun to figure out our way around. We were also very pleased with the staff at the hotel. Several staff literally went out of their way to show us the way to our destination. There is so much to see at the hotel and it is decorated beautifully!! It could very easily be a cheesy tourist attraction, but it is very tastefully decorated. We only had one mishap with luggage being damaged as it was loaded onto the shuttle, but they told my friend that they would reimburse him for the suitcase. (Hasn't happened yet, but we just left this morning) Overall the expereince was wonderful and we would love to return!!

Probably won't return to Gaylord Opryland Hotel
By JEAN, 11/01/09
After a two day/two night stay at this hotel, I was more than ready to depart. The artrium is a beautiful scene...the horticulture department deserves acolades for their work. After that is said, I can't say much more on the positive side about this very difficult hotel to navigate around. You spend most of your time there trying to find the right way to go. Both days that I had to request wash cloths, magnifying mirror/light was not cleaned in many a moons, light bulbs out in lights, no chairs for relaxing in, other than your bed, coffee maker needed a good cleaning, certainly not germ free, exhaust fan didn't work in bathroom...if any. These rooms are too expensive not to have the amenties that many lesser priced hotels have without all the fuss and confusion. I would probably recommend that people go look at this hotel, but not recommend that they pay the pricey price for frustration. I don't think I am the only one that feels that way...everyone that I spoke to seemed to be as frustrated as myself. Perhaps this is a hotel that caters to the convention scene and these persons have more personal service and direction than the individual on their own? All in all I would say that this was not the best of experiences for me! Rather spoiled some of the vacation.

Gaylord Opryland is gigantic
By SylviaD, 10/13/09
This place has 9 ACRES of tropical gardens in the middle of the hotel, you get lost all the time when trying to find your room. The place is a maze with no easy to navigate design. we were there for 2 days and 2 nights and were lost most of the time. You cannot park at registration (unless you use valet parking for an extra $10 per day on top of the $20 per day parking charge). Don't plan on parking near your room, there is only 1 lot and it isn't near any rooms. Plan on extra charges for everything, a hotel charge of $18 to receive a package, $13 to receive a fax (on top of the charges to get it there). I ordered a Jack Daniels drink and paid an extra $1.50 hotel liquor tax on the $10.00 drink plus 9.25%sales tax. it is a beautiful hotel, but our room had an empty bottle under the night stand and what I sensitively will refer to as "bodily fluids" on the comforter, no fan in the bathroom.... The servers at the restaurants were wonderful, I will not sell them short. We had a fax sent and none of the staff was sure where it went, we never did get it. I was not impressed and don't care to ever go back.

Two Sows Ears
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/28/09
Talk about trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.... Just back from 5 nights at the Gaylord Opryland. Got in at 11:00 p.m. after working all day and flying 500 miles. The last shuttle, for which we pre-paid, left 30 minutes before we arrived. Our reserved king room was gone and we offered an "upgrade" to a party suite with a hide-a-bed. We were promised a king room next a.m. with atrium view. We did get a king room, but miles from any of the atriums. Incredibly complicated layout, high prices, terrible food, indifferent, unhelpful, basically untrained staff. Nicest people there were the shuttle drivers and the Hertz employees. We would never stay again, nor recommend.
