76 reviews for Sea Mist Resort Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach
This place is a joke!
By Georgia, 08/23/09
We stayed at SeaMist in July 2009. We brought our 2 small yorkie teacup dogs with us. My 14 year old daughter brought a friend and needless to say, we were embarrassed when we pulled up. We were told check in time 3pm & after driving 8 hours were not allowed check in 4pm. We townhouse we stayed in wasnt at all like the website featured it and the air worked great downstairs as you burned up in the upstairs part at nite while trying to sleep. Everything was very outdated including appliances. NO washer and dryers in townhouse. The nose level was horrible and there was no internet access in the rooms. We called 3 different times before arriving and was told my 3 different reps that Family waterpark and amusement park were within walking distance and that is a lie. These are both about 6 blocks from where we stayed. We would not recommend this to anyone, and we did try to find someplace else to stay but we were limited due to having some dogs and could not find anywhere else to stay. We wound up leaving a day early just so we could get a full nights sleep.

GREAT!!!!
By Carol, 08/09/09
I don't understand the bad reviews. I made the reservations before I read the reviews based on a friend who was there previously. A week before we went, I read the reviews and got real nervous since my children and grandchildren were also joining us. Our check-in time was less than 10 minutes and the staff we encountered were all friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Driftwood and one one family stayed in the Sandcastle since they had a dog. Our rooms were as presented on the computer. It was clean, the beds were clean, the bathroom was clean and I didn't notice any odor anywhere we were on the property. The beds are double beds and the sheets not fitted, but since housekeeping makes the beds, that was not a problem. If you want bigger beds, you have to reserve different rooms. The pools, hallways, elevators, etc., were all clean. We were all pleased!!! I was told that it was one of the busiest weekends at the resort and they were filled to capacity. The elevators are crowded when guests are checking in and checking out and you may have to wait. I didn't find it a major inconvenience, since at some point I was one of the guests checking in and checking out. We had no problem finding a parking space. Obviously, when you leave a space, you won't get the same one you had in a resort area, but there was always a space available in the underground garage. All in all, it was a nice place to stay and the grandchildren enjoyed themselves and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. If you don't want to leave the area, almost anything you want or need is within a short walking distance.

Excellent family deal!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/09
I loved everything about our vacation, at Sea Mist Resort! Our family stayed for a week! Prior to our trip, I compared prices everywhere, including Disneyworld, as well as read other peoples' reviews. But now I realize why others were so complimentary of the resort. My entire family was able to take advantage of the oceanfront beach, free amusement park entrance each night, as well as the free waterpark entrance and the nice family portrait. We also loved the nightly resort activities such as the cookout, movie night, family karaoke night and pizza night. There was even firworks on the beach at night, which was beautiful! My kids are still talking about their vacation, even after a month has passed. Since I am a detailed planner, I wanted the best deal for my family. And I was extremely satisfied in my selection of this resort. I truly believe that it was the best deal possible!!! It was a great affortable family vacation, which we will definitely return to soon!!!! You won't be disappointed, if you're looking for affordability, family fun, relaxation & wonderful people!

We like it here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/09
Well my wife found the Sea Mist via the web. From the firs time we stayed there we loved it. True it is not the best hotel I've stayed it but it sure is not the worst. The family value package is wonderful. The amount of pools are also good. Yes there are some minor problems, like no towels left by the pool after about 3 pm and there being sand in the water. But what do you expect it's the BEACH. I have smelled a foul odor on the elevater before, but ya know it may be all that clorine from the pool water in the carpets. My room has always been clean and the employees are always willing to help (although it is hard to understand them at times). Of course at times there should be some paint put on the building or something washed off. But it is the beach and the weather takes a toll on the buildings there. But I think all and all this is a great place for a family vacation with children the value is great. And I am a person who wants to relax when on vacation and the Sea Mist allows me to do so and our kids love it. We come back every year and will in 09 as well.

It's good on a budget
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/09
We traveled from TN to have a wonderful family vacation with our two children ages 1 and 8. We stayed in the Sandcastle building on the 9th floor, the view was nice but we quickly noticed the railings were not suitable for children, both kids could fit in rails. We never had decent parking, had to park in parking garage across road and had to walk far in rain few nights. The idea of the resort is nice, but the room was run down and overall not really impressive. Needless to say, our stay really made our vaction one of the worst ones we had ever been on.

Third Year!!!
By Susan, 06/30/09
This was our third year with the SeaMist. I have a 4, 8 and 9 year old who love it. We only stay in the driftwood bldg when we go and its always very clean. We checked around this year and its the best deal out there with the "Family Package" It will save you a TON and give you something to do everyday without coming off any extra money. Never had to fight for space at a pool there are so many. Definately a place for kids or kid at heart!!!

Returning to SeaMist
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/01/09
The hotel is old but the bottom floor room in the Palms suited our family of six very well. Everyone was happy. We had quick access to the pool and could easily get to mini golf, onsite water park and arcade within 2 minutes. Beach was no more than a 5 minute walk with the family. Evening activities were enjoyable. Staff responded to our numerous requests for more towels and to unlock our safe. The Family Value Pkg may be worth it if you plan on making repeat trips to the amusement and other water park. Otherwise just get the basic room rate. The onsite water park is more of a water playground. We had the best time just relaxing on the lazy river. If you plan on going, review their website thoroughly and ask questions when you call to make sure you know what is / is not included. Depnding on your package and what you would like to do there may be additional fees (i.e. min gof, onsite water park, fun night events, etc).

Don't stay there!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/12/09
VERY dirty. Incompentent staff. Loud neighbors, thin walls...people next door to us were smoking POT in the non-smoking room next to ours which wafted under the adjoining door to our room. Exterior was worn, cracked, and moldy... I was glad to return home from this vacation!

A Trip to Find Answers
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/20/09
After reading so many negative reviews, both on this site and others, I decided to take a day, drive down with two of my grandchildren, and see for myself if this is where we wanted to vacation this summer. With it being a 3 hour drive (and a long week-end for the children), I could do this. This is what I found: CLEANLINESS: I had read many reports of the place being dirty. We stayed in a family suite at the Palms, and I checked out Uncle Leroy's Cottage (a 2-story unit with 4 bedrooms) as well as a 4 bedroom unit at the Sandcastle. All were spotless - I couldn't see where complaints came from there. CONDITION: Many reviews talked about it being old and rundown. I think this depends on what you're looking for. If you're wanting a plush hotel with every luxury in the book, then no, you're not going to find it. If, however, you're like many of us who are used to going to the beach and staying at "affordable" places, this place isn't bad. I certainly wouldn't call it run down, but it's not as modern and plush as some. Sandcastle was wonderful! THINGS TO OFFER: Even though we came down in January and naturally the waterparks were not open, my grandkids thought they looked like terrific fun. There's a water park suitable for older kids as well as one for younger children, so that part would work well for us. DISADVANTAGES: Sea MIst covers 14 acres and 3 blocks. The cottage that would accomodate my family was 2 1/2 blocks from ocean front and from the kiddie waterpark, and with 2 small ones, that would mean an awful lot of packing, walking, etc. - especially with the 2 older ones who would want to be going in a different direction to their age-appropriate park. The four bedroom unit at Sandcastle would be WONDERFUL - it was huge, ocean front and very centrally located. However, its price was beyond our means. Also, you see much advertised about the Family Kingdom Water Park and Amusement Park, but to get the family package that includes those benefits, you pay a pretty good sum for that, as well. Still, you don't have to get that package, and to just use the water facilities provided at Sea Mist, it's $3/person per day. PERSONNEL: Everyone I encountered spoke English (this was a big complaint I read about), and everyone was willing to help. I specifically asked to view rooms in different areas, and they willingly gave me a key and trusted me to go in, view these as long as I liked, then return the key. CONCLUSION: We ended up not reserving it for our summer vacation, as much as we would have liked to. Why? I didn't want to be 2 1/2 blocks from ocean front, and we especially wanted one unit for all of us since this is to be a "family" vacation. The unit in Sand Castle is what I really wanted, but simply couldn't afford. (In the neighborhood of $5000 for a week - they couldn't tell me exactly, but it was probably more since it was ocean front.) I do feel the negative reviews are unfair - I'm glad I had the chance to check it out, and I hope others will benefit from this review.
