flooded bathroom everyday
By ,
Just returned from a 3 day stay at the Dayton House. Our bathroom flooded from the ceiling every time the guests in the room above us took a shower. It flooded into the carpet in the sleeping area as well. We were told by maintance that the suites were having the same problem as well. Rather than give us a different room they put loads of towels everywhere to soak up the water. The beds were too soft, the pillows too thin..very dated bedspreads . I would not stay here again.

Great Place To Stay
By ,
We stay at the Dayton House twice a year. Although the rooms are older and could use modernizing, they suit your needs. We alway stay in an oceanfront suite or oceanfront efficiency room and the views are amazing. Although the amenities are good, there are several other hotels along the grand strand with bigger and more amenities (pools, kiddie pools, longer lazy rivers, etc). The biggest draw for us to the Dayton House is the lawn with the tables and chairs. This the best feature. Not everyone wants to sit around a pool or on the beach for the whole day. The lawn gives you a table to eat at; an umbrella for cover from the sun; lounge and regular lawn chairs; and you are close to all of the pools, hot tubs, lazy river and the beach access. The lawn sets the Dayton House apart from the other hotels.

Awesome Stay
By ,
There were 4 of us staying and we stayed in the Oceanview 2 Room Suite and it was a great place to stay!!! From the Balcony you can see the great Oceanview AND a great view of the strip which was pretty entertaining at night. They have some awesome pools, hot tubs, a lazy river and a lil snack shop by the pool that serves hotdogs, hamburgers, nachos, drinks and mixed drinks. Great access to the beach area, nice parking garage - felt very safe. I believe it's alot better than what the pictures show online - they do need to upgrade their pictures. Loved it and would def stay again!!

Great! We stay there every time we go!
By ,
Me and My family stay there everytime we go. We love the pools. Easy walking diatance to the pravilion. You can use pools up till 12. We love that fact because we go out to eat then go to shops. Then come back and use pools and walk the beach. They are one of the cleaniest hotels my family has stayed at. And as for management. We never had an problem of rudeness. We are getting ready to go back in just 7 little days=) Can't wait=) I would recommend this hotel to anyone

Nice- but wouldn't call it a \"resort\"
By ,
Arrived in town early but couldn't check-in. Staff were friendly, had no problems with them. Biggest problem was parking, had to park across street from hotel and run across 4 lanes of traffic. Rooms need major updating, especially carpet. Stayed in an oceanfront room with nice ocean view. Pools were always full as well as the hot tub up until they closed. So I never used either. Guests are required to wear pink amusement park style wristbands in order to use pool and sit on oceanfront lawn. Non-smoking rooms including no smoking on balconies. Think we paid a bit too much for our rooms. This is a no frills place, not my idea of a resort. For the money, I think there are probably nicer places to stay in town.

Will Never Go Back!!!!
By ,
I checked in on 6/13 and wasnt told that there is a 100.00 authorization hold. This wasn't disclosed in my reservation letter that I received by mail or when I checked in at the front desk. I found out an hour later when my bank sent my a text notifying me of the charge. The front desk clerk advised when I called that it was a security deposit that would be released when I checked out. Upon check out on 6/16 the money was still not released. The same clerk that checked me in told me that it would be later that afternoon after housekeeping completed rounds. My bank told me it would probably be a day. The next evening still no refund. I called Dayton House last night & asked to speak with a manager. The manager Andy, said this should have been disclosed to me when I checked in & he would speak with the clerk when she returned to work. He checked the system and I don't know what he did but when we hung up I received a text from my bank showing the funds were deposited back in my account. This was poor service to me, not disclosing this info upfront and apparently I was lied to about the funds being already released. Besides that, housekeeping didn't make up our beds the first day and one of the employees were rude to us. Dayton House willl never have my business ever again.

VERY DISAPPOINTED - WITH STAFF AND ROOM
By ,
Well lets start with the staff they were very rude, not friendly at all to start with. I made my reservation on the internet, not knowing exactly want the room look like, but i was looking for a very nice up to date room, but when i got there i was so disappointed with the room and we were for three days, three long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Days after talking to other people that were staying there and said they come back every year. I was told I was in the old building, the place was not clean, it was small, the lights were dim, this place need to be UPDATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish i had i had read the reviews prior to making my reservation. I will never recommand this place to anyone. I LOVE THE SWING BY THE POOL. THAT WAS NICE SEE I DID FIND SOMETHING NICE TO SAY ABOUT THE PLACE

I wouldn't stay anywhere else
By ,
For starters, the staff was incredibly nice. The rooms are no frills and very clean. We stayed in an oceanfront efficiency in the South Building. I like the south building a little better because you can keep an eye on the hot tub so that you can make a beeline for it when it's free :) The housekeeping staff were very nice as well. On the days that we had the dnd on the door, they called to make sure that we had enough towels and necessities like soap/shampoo and coffee. I hadn't been there in about 12 years, and having read some of the reviews on here I was a little bit concerned that things may have changed for the worse at the Dayton House, but I was more than happy with out stay. We wanted to stay an extra day and they worked it out for us. I am sure most of these people that gave bad reviews failed to follow the correct procedures or had a bad attitude from the start. If you are expecting your every whim to be catered to, go someplace else and pay four times as much. This is a great place for couples and families who need a good vacation with no hassle or aggravation. Since I had last been there, they have put in a much larger overflow pool. It's not quite as deep as the old pool, but thanks to stupid people that sue over their own lack of responsibility, you will be had pressed to find any hotel pools deeper than 5 feet anywhere. Still, 5 feet deep is plenty enough for your average person and more than enough for kids. I also really liked the new hot-tub, it's quite a bit bigger than the old one. The fact that they have 3 pools, 3 hot tubs and a lazy river also helps if you want to get away from the main pool area. In terms of negative things to say, the only thing gripe I had was that someone who had stayed in our room prior to us had failed to wash some of the dishes to a high standard. It is clearly put up on the cabinets that it is the renter's responsibility to clean the dishes, not housekeeping. Wash your dishes, people!!!! My wife and I will continue to stay there every time we go back to the beach and I am already planning for next year! We sincerely thank the staff at the Dayton House for helping us to have a great vacation that we both so desperately needed! Thanks Dayton House!!
