Great choice!
By ,
Initially a friend of mine was planning on joining me however she had to back out at the last minute. Despite this, I still opted to go even if it was on my own. I was apprehensive at first not being very familiar with Newport (I knew what I wanted to do but wasn't sure how I was going to fit it all in). Upon checking into the hotel, their Concierge Paula hooked me right up!!!! She was terrific! I ultimately had the best time! My room was terrific! I will definitely go back again!!!

Pretty good hotel--great location!
By ,
The location was excellent, right in the middle of downtown. Good spot to be if you love shopping. There is a nice restaraunt and a good-sized pool on the premises. It also has a marina (good if you're a boater). Our room was a little on the small side but very clean, with a nice view of Newport Harbor. The public spaces (hallways, lobby, elevators) are comfortable and clean. There is a good-sized, clean pool. The staff are friendly, pleasant people who we never encountered a problem with. Our only complaints are that, after 9pm, there is no room sevice, and that a few aspects of the building's design are dated.

Will not be going back

Reservations mean nothing! Had a two double bed room reserved (and confirm in writing). Got there only to be told that we had to accept a king size bed with a rollaway bed room. Oh and they said they would not charge us extra for the rollaway bed. Swimming pool was filled with band aides. As our 11 year old said, really gross!!. Newly renovated?? maybe 5 to 10 years ago. Bathroom was old and in need of repairs. Location was great but we paid a lot of money for a so so hotel.

We are booking again!
By ,
The hotel had clearly been remodeled and was kept clean. We found the staff to be very friendly. We stayed for the New Year's holiday. The bash was great and the entertainment even better! James Montgomery rocks. We had a great time. The only thing that I didn't care for, was the front desk told us that the Gala was simi-formal. After the crowd filed in with mostly bluejeans on, we went to our room and changed. Formal wear is very uncomfortable. Other than some door slamming at 2 or so, what the heck, it was New Year's. We are arriving there again this year. Newport is a magical place.

Big cost, shabby rooms
By ,
The internet pictures due this hotel no justice - they are of the absolute best room. I paid nearly $700.00 for two nights. The room was very small, no refridgerator, and the bathroom was tiny. They asked you to re-use towels as they are a green hotel. $350 average for each night and you need to re-use your towels! The view from the habor view rooms is great - no question. The location is wonderful - no question. You can hear every adjoining room door open and close all night. They have a sensor in the room to shut down your a/c when it does not sense movement. You come back to very hot rooms. If you don't move enough at night you get nice and toasty as well. Parking - it is not noted, but you pay $15.00 per day to park. This was an unexpected bill. Of note is that every person whom wants to park at the hotel's nice downtown location pays the same. Why? At a minimum discount the fee, if not eliminate it all together for patrons. I asked about the fee and was simply told, "We're sorry. Is there anything else I can help you with?" Also, the day clerk is rude. I stood there like a ghost and she never looked up. It is a bad sign that a police officer is on duty to evict patrons whom are too roudy on weekends. If location is ALL you need this is the hotel. Otherwise STAY CLEAR!

evicted and double billed (May 2007)
By ,
EVICTED from the commodor suite ($844 per night) after 1 notification (approx. 12:15am) at our our door from an extremely rude front desk clerk for noise complaints. No prior phone call, no security warning, nothing. We made a phone call to the front desk about the rudeness of the hotel clerk and was told we would have to speak to a manager in the morning. We kept quiet and were almost asleep when 4 Newport police officers and 1 security guard were at our door 45 minutes later (1:00am) to evict 4 business men age 35-37. One police officer actually said he didn't know why they were called. The hotel DOUBLE BILLED us for the room ($1,688.44), which caused much confusion with the dispute department at Discover card. The dispute is still pending.... Note: after talking with the hotel manager, he said the night clerk had security come up many times. When I asked him to produce a time log from the independent security company verifying this, he could not do so. Rude staff, zero tolerance noise policy and a mangement staff that needs a dose of common sense. Stay elsewhere! and please continue to post any reviews of this nature...

Such a disappointment
By ,
We travelled to New England from the UK in July 2007. After 3 glorious days in Boston and 3 more on Cape Cod we decided to extend our trip by an exciting trip to Newport - and I decided to blow my budget by booking what appeared to be the best hotel in town. HUGE ERROR. The location is fantastic - but thats it. The rooms are like those in a cheap motel, there is no proper restaurant on site - but instead a kind of snack bar called Pier 49. This is OK but not what I would have expected for around $300 a night. Do yourself a favour - book a proper hotel. This was like amateur night.

Do Not Stay Here
By ,
This hotel is not cheap, and it should be far better. The bathroom was a mess. Had a water facing room with sub-par air conditioning. The room roasted in the afternoon to the point it was unbearable. I forgot toothpaste and went to the front desk only to be given a sample of toothpaste that was smaller than a packet of ketchup one might get at a clam shack. The service in the restaurant was non-existant. The concierge was helpful and got us a table at a good restaurant. That was it. We'd been better off at a B&B - or at the Hyatt, where we would have at least gotten our money's worth. Until this place gets its act together, don't bother.

Newly remodeled, Clean!
By ,
We got the room on Priceline for $100...huge deal! Than I read the reviews! I was very worried after reading previous reviews. Upon arriving we found that the hotel was newly remodeled. The rooms are all newly refurbished, very comfortable pillows, many toiletries, spotless elevators and hallways. More than pleasant staff. Perfectly located between the Brick Market and Bowen's Wharf. What more can one ask for??? I believe previos reviews should be wiped out!

NEEDS NEW MANAGEMENT!
By ,
We loved the location, and we did not have to look very far for a vacancy. However, it did not seem they used their employees wisely. There was room service food outside in the hallway for over a day. The lights turned on/off when we sat on the bed. Majority of the lights in the room did not work. The remote control on the tv did not work. The pool area did not have towels available. The restaurant's breakfast buffet food and service were poor that is after we tripped a few times on the buckled rug.
