THANK YOU - TOWN OF WESTERLY !
By ron, 12/09/09
IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE ADMINISTRATIVE FORE SIGHT IN THE TOWN OF WESTERLY HAS ENSURED THAT THIS VERY HISTORIC AND SYMBOLIC HOTEL WILL BE RENOVATED TO REFLECT ALL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ORIGINAL HOTEL. TOWN OFFICIALS INVOLVED IN THIS DECISION AND PROCESS ARE TO BE CONGRATULATED! I'M PROUD TO BE A RESIDENT OF THIS WONDERFUL TOWN! GOD BLESS WESTERLY, R.I.

Can't wait for it to open!
By Mary, 09/28/09
The Ocean House, Watch Hill, RI is one of the great beauties on the shores of New England. They are building her back up to her former beauty with a promise to be a 5star resort. Next summer (2010) that is where my family vacation will be. The beach is gorgeous-can't wait to sit at the beach and have a beach-boy bring me beverages.

It's been torn down
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/13/06
I loved this place and can only hope they are planning on resurrecting it and not replacing it with homes. I was very sad to see it gone.

amazing landmark, poor hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/21/06
The Ocean House, while indeed worthy of the Victorian Age, has not kept up with the times. It is beautiful, despite the chipping paint, slanting hallways, and mold, all presenting a fire hazard. However, the charm is a direct result of it being unmodified in the past 100 years. So, make a reservation in Watch Hill, and go visit the Ocean House. I do not recommend staying the night there.

Ocean House
By KarenH, 03/02/06
The Ocean House, the last Grande Hotel from the 20's has been torn down and is being rebuilt. Don't know when it will be ready to reopen but it will not be this year.

THE LAST TWO SEASONS
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/31/06
I had the privilege of working at the Ocean House as Breakfast Host for it's final two seasons. Since 1867, this venerable palace had opened the last week of June and closed the day after Labor Day. No TV's, no air conditioning, no telephones in the rooms....it sat there on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on the most beautiful beach in Rhode Island. Sweeping verandas looked out at Block Island. I had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people from all over the world who treasured this "last of it's kind" for what it was.....a throwback to a time when life was much simpler and we actually communicated with each other face to face.....no distractions. I just recently heard that it was torn down to be replaced by a replica. Thank you OCEAN HOUSE for the best two summers of my life. You will be missed!

A Wonderful Memory
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/25/05
The Ocean House, in Westerly, Rhode Island, is a treasured memory of mine. I used to go there with my paternal grandparents, and my younger brother - my folks used to tag along as well. It appears that the wonderful, grand hotel is no longer there. I have never been able to place how special the memories I made there were, but they always reminded me, in later years, of J.D. Salinger's "A Perfect Day for Bananafish". Whether the talent of Salinger is worth comparing to the Ocean House is debatable. Whether the memory of those sweet, salty days are is not.
