The way it should be
By ,
This hotel/inn is a refreshing step back to a simple, quite family setting, no a/c (don't need it with the refreshing breezes) telephones or tv in rooms. The spacious lawn on the water gives beautiful views especially the sunsets. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the old harbor. The rooms are not extravagent, but that is not what the Bock is about. We have gone there for several years and the staff is always personal and the usual Block friendliness. Kathy (manager) is always more than accomadating. The dinners are fantastic on the beautiful wrap around porch. Kids can play on the lawn, meet friends. Love it

Even my 7 year old said \"Mommy it is so relaxing here\"
By ,
There is something about the view, the staff and the design of the old buidling that make you feel like you are a very welcomed guest at a home and not a hotel. It is a simple Inn, but anyone who is going out to BI to watch TV and sit in AC all day might as well stay on the mainland and get a hotel. The prior reviews noting no food, nothing to do, prisoner - that is ridiculous. If you had looked outside you would have seen there are cabs waiting outside to bring you wherever you need to go. And should you not see a cab, just check the front room where there are pamphlets of places to dine, cab companies etc. The Narr Inn is the most friendly, welcoming comfortable and relaxing family establishment I have ever been too and would recommend it to anyone time and time again. PS The food is the best and prices are more than reasonable. The a.m buffet is great!

We'll Be Back Summer Of '08
By ,
This was my 1st visit to both, The Narragansett and Block Island, and I love both!! Great staff, fantastic views, short walking distance to "The Old Harbor" village, and there's alot to see and do on this island! A much better value than staying anywhere in the Hamptons, Shelter Island, or Montauk. The Narragansett Inn is not for the "Room Service/Concierge/Jet Set", but it's a very clean, well maintained establishment, with beautiful views of the "New Harbor". When you check-in, say hello to Cathy(The Propritor). Then, have Paul(The Beverage Manager)pour you a drink at the bar, that has a great view!

Simple Pleasures
By ,
The best part of the Inn for me was to get my family away from the television, computer etc and enjoy each others company. The quiet, quaint accomodations were relaxing. I felt like an "Islander" and far enough away from the more touristy spots. The gorgeous wrap around porch and adirondack chairs watching the boats come in is a perfect place to end the day. The staff is very friendly and it almost feels as if you are staying with extended family. The kids love playing in the grassy yard and splashing at the waters edge. We will be returning this year for our 3rd year in a row. It is truly what Block Island is all about.

We had a great time!
By ,
I'm not sure what people were disappointed about in other reviews. I was told when I booked, no tv, phone, or ac, very basic rooms. They told me it was about a 20 min. walk to town, or cabs were readily available. I found all of this to be true. I asked in several shops for their favorite places to eat, and the breakfast buffet was mentioned several times. I wasn't disappointed. The front desk staff, I think her name was Joan, was extremely helpful with directions, bike rentals and even where to see the most awesome sunset. Maybe some people are thinking they are getting a bed and breakfast type place, which might explain why they were upset about finding a bar. I gave the Inn 5 stars for the OVERALL EXPERIENCE we had there. I didn't say it was a 5 star Inn, nor did they claim to be.

Its block island
By ,
If you go to New Harbor, then this is the atmosphere youre going to get, its far away from downtown for a reason... to take you away from the everyday flood of newcoming tourists. Block Island isnt about tv, or ac or telephones, its about enjoying your surroundings. Hey and a late night never killed anyone, these people need to lighten up!

I'd turn back if I were you
By ,
I only wish I had come to this site before I plunked down nearly $300 to stay at this hole ... in the off season, no less. We were coming to Block Island for a family funeral and this was the recommended hotel. Why? I simply cannot imagine. Let's start with the worst thing: Noisy, noisy, noisy. The proprietors should warn guests that they have a BAR on the first floor which will keep you up till all hours. Whoever wrote in an earlier review "oh, don't worry about the karaoke" must have been a plant from the Narragansett. They may not have karaoke any more but noise, they continue to have in massive doses. Next: The inn is in the middle of nowhere, so if you come to the island without a car (which many, if not most, people do), you'll feel like you're in prison after dark. The hotels in Old Harbor may not be great, either, but at least if you're in town, you can walk around and get something to eat. Which leads me to: Next: Absolutely nothing to eat, not even a vending machine with a stinking candy bar, after the dining room closes. So at 9 p.m., back from the post-funeral gathering which included lunch, not dinner, here we were: Me, my husband, and my two teenage sons, without a cracker until morning and all this horrific noise going on downstairs so we couldn't even sleep! Next: The rooms are totally spartan - plank wood floors, sand all over the floors - not even a single simple cotton throw rug. We were among the lucky guests - at least we had our own bathroom. But we paid dearly for it. I've traveled all over the world in my 50 years and I have never had worse accommodations anywhere. In the morning, we were darned if we'd pay another ten bucks per person for breakfast, so we cut our losses and got the heck off the island on the 9:30 ferry! The people writing the supposed five-star reviews must be friends and family of the owners. Do yourself a favor and give this place a big miss. Sorry this is so long but I think people should know the full story.

Save yourself and go ANYWHERE else!
By ,
When staying on Block Island everyone should know that most places have minimal accomodations, which is part of its appeal, so the Naraganssett falls higher on the list because of what it has to off. But it's filth and bad service take any redeeming qualities away from it. My husband and I were feeling great and ready to be on vacation, so little was going to really bother us. But the lack of cleaniness and cold service by both the waitstaff and front desk staff impeded on our vacation and good time It is going to be a very painfull experience paying the credit card that we payed for the room with.
