A motel not a relais & chateaux hotel
By ,
am still shocked regarding our experience with this hotel. We selected this hotel based upon reviews on this website and the fact that it was part of Relais & Chateaux. Well, after staying here, we are completely perplexed, both with the previous reviews as well as what Relais et Chateaux's definition of Luxury is. I can not be: snotty service, padded bills, absence of sport facilities, hurly-burly of restaurant guests and clairaudience.

Not good
By ,
We stayed at the Castle Hill Inn on a weekend and I must admit it was not good but I was not horrible either. The service is certainly not top notch, mainly because the hotel & restaurant was always overcrowded by bar & restaurant visitors. The rooms in the Inn are old and in any case too expensive for what you get. The food in the restaurant was o.k. but given your high expectations not a delight and certainly not a good value. All in all a disappoitment!

A disgrace
By ,
This hotel has a good location but that's where the advantages end.The hotel is certainly not a 5 star as advertised, it is overpriced, dated and the service leaves a lot to be desired. We had a truly awful stay here. The rooms were unbearably hot, small, and uncomfortable. We arrived back at our room on satuday at 2.30pm and the room still had not been made up. The hotel is in dire need of a face lift. There are many points about this hotel I could list here, but these are the main things. I can honestly say that this hotel was by far the worst hotel I have ever visited - 5 star or less. Avoid it, there are some other beautiful hotels to stay at.

horrible experience
By ,
This by far has the worst customer service, for the price we paid... I expected a much nicer front desk. Were not accomodating at all! We booked this accommodation via the internet and wished we had taken notice of reviews already written. It certainly was a most unpleasant experience on our first ever visit to New England. Will never stay here again...

Dreadful
By ,
The room was old and smelled. The management was rude . OK.... I've been using Tripadvisor for my trips for quite some time now and this was the first time I felt dupped. I usually read the negative reviews with a "grain of salt" but as long as the overall reviews are positive then I feel ok to take a change. With this hotel I was wrong. I would never even contemplate staying there again and my advice to anyone who reads this is that they shouldn't either.

Ripp Off
By ,
We stayed at the end of our vacation in New England at the Castle Hill Inn for two nights in the Master Bedroom for USD 429 ++. What we expected was: a room with view onto the sea, smell & sound of the ocean. What we got was: a view of the huge car park, kitchen stench and continuous sound of a power generator in our room. On top, the Inn is badly soundproofed with the result that you can hear almost every voice from our neighbors as well as the guests from the restaurant, bar and reception. There is no area reserved to hotel guests only as well as no sport facilities, Spa or swimming pool. In France you would call it "restaurant avec chambres". When we arrived at the Inn the restaurant and the garden was overcrowded by day-trippers. It was more like visiting a parish fair than entering a first class hotel. We found the service extremely bad, perhaps as their business is focused on the restaurant and bar but not on the hotel. The person who has introduced to us to be the general manager looked like a bouncer and his demeanor was completely unacceptable for a GM of a Relais & Chateaux property. The food in the restaurant was mediocre and again very poor service in a crowded dining area. All in all the worst Relais & Chateaux hotel we have ever stayed at as well as the worst hotel on our entire trip. I can not remember that I have ever stayed at a hotel which was as badly managed as the Castle Hill Inn. If you like to be treated like a welcome guest, stay somewhere else.

Heavenly Trip
By ,
I traveled on business for 25 years and have stayed in hotels and resorts, large and small. When I want a great personal getaway - I head to Castle Hill. I discovered it several years ago. Just returned from my 5th visit. Excellent food, excellent service and wonderful accommodations. I always stay in the Beach Houses. When your room is steps from the ocean - what's not to like! Yes it's pricey, but if you go mid-week, you'll find a great package. I have visited with friends, and also traveled there alone. I always enjoy my stay because I get treated like a million bucks. If you need a pool, a band or loud music - try a hotel in town. If you want relaxation, great service and great food - try Castle Hill.

keen disappointment
By ,
overcrowded by day-trippers focused on restaurant not hotel business very bad & arrogant service mediocre food at horrendous prices no spa, pool or sport facilities no area exclusively for hotel guest (i.e. in the garden) obsolete heating & air condition in the hotel rooms in the Inn rooms are badly soundproofed grossly overpriced I felt messed around to paid USD 429 ++ (off-season) for such a bad experience. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this might not be the right place.
