36 reviews for Lancaster Host Resort, Lancaster
My 2 cents
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/30/09
After seeing all the other reviews’ I had to check this place out just to see for myself. We go to Lancaster 2-3 times a year, and we've had our share of bad experiences with the typical name brand lodges and inns, so we've been looking for that diamond in the ruff. Everything about the experience was great. We only saw a couple of cleanliness items, but they were such that it didn’t appear as though it was from continual neglect. To be perfectly honest we found ourselves continually looking for something wrong. We walked around the whole place looking at all the amenities’ and we were very pleased with all we saw. We also noticed that all the other guests seemed to be as happy as we were. I don’t know what may have happened to the other folks who have written the negative reviews’ of this place, but as for us, we've found our new go-to place.

never going back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/24/09
Indoor pool was supposed to be 80 degrees, more like 60. Wood at the mini golf was rotted, hair in the drain of the tub and the door was impossible to open and management said they were packed with 4 cars in the lot

What a disaster
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/09
I had visited Lancaster Host many times in the past, all the way back to when it was American Host Farms Resort. Back then, it was the premier vacation resort in Lancaster. Now, it is like the deserted version of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. We walked into the desolate yet clean lobby with hesitation since there was not a car in sight in the parking lot. I had to question whether they were even open for business. I never thought to check reviews on this property before we booked it. I hadn't been there in several years but never had a bad experience there, except for the fact it has been showing its age lately. Well, it now looks like it is on life support, and losing life quickly. The carpet is embarrassingly filthy, the bathroom sink was cracked and patched. Our television did not get good reception, and the air conditioner either blew 60 degrees or 90 degrees. The lock on the entry door was also broken. Upon inspecting the property, I noticed several other alarming things. The indoor pool, if you can even call it that, it is more like a stagnant pond of cloudy water, was disgusting. There was standing water all around the pool, and when I went back the next morning, the same standing water was still puddled on the filthy concrete floor. I would not let my family trudge through that slop. The "fitness center" had equipment probably donated from the old Jack LaLanne show. It did not have any means of cleaning the equipment after use, so you can pretty much tell why it smelled so bad. Also, a hamper with sweaty towels was left from the previous day. We had only booked 2 nights, so we were going to ride it out for the second day until we went to breakfast (which was a buffet included with our $105.00 rate) and found moldy food on the buffet. That was enough for us. I took a mold covered bagel up to the front desk, asked for the manager, handed it to him, and checked out. It was really sad, that a place that enjoyed such a wonderful reputation in the past, and rightfully so, has deteriorated so dramatically.

What an awesome Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/31/09
The place is awesome. When you walk into the door the staff greats you with a warm welcoming smile. You are treated like royallty from the moment you walk into the door and check in until you check out. Every morning when you wake up you are greeted to a complimentary newspaper outside your door to your room when you wake up. The food is just scruptious and is prepared fresh every morning. All of the food at the breakfast buffet is delcicious except sometimes the eggs are runny or dry and cold. When you check in if you need extra pillows I suguest you call early because usually you have to call multiple times for the staff to bring them to your room. The pool is beautiful. The indoor pool has been out of service for a couple of years and they havent renovated the hottub as they had promised to do in the past. The hotel is on a main drag so there are lots of things to do for entertainment. There are also lots of restauraunts for you eating pleasure including two on the premisis of the hotel not including the hut by the pool which has great food. If you are going down to the pool for a long period of time I suguest you put your maid service sign out early because somtimes they don't come and clean it until 4:00 pm. I also suguest that you check your coffee pot after the maids have cleaned your room because once they left our coffee pot on when they bumped into it. Lucikly no damage was done to the room or our belongings. My family and I can't wait to go back and we look forward to returning in August of 2009. My family has been staying and the Lancaster Host Hotel for many years and we look forward to staying there for many more years to come!!!!!!!!!!

STAYSTAY AWAY
By Bernice, 01/21/09
My woman's group and I had our yearly retreat there and it was horrible. The hotel staff were not helpful or courteous at all. We had a hard time getting past the worn out carpeting, peeling wall paper and the cracks in the sinks. The tv's didn't work properly and 2 rooms had dirty coffee makers(with stuff still in them). The rooms we had were supposed to be non-smoking yet they smelled for smoke. We had 5 rooms on the 3rd floor. They also have no elevators which make dragging bags up three floors a major headache for all 20 of us. And we had elderly women with us. Our rooms were at the back of the hotel and the staff didn't tell us that we could drive around the back and use that entrance to make it easer for us to get to our rooms. The breakfast buffet was $10 US and could have done better at home in my own kitchen. The lobby was nice but it is like they forgot to fix-up/renovate the rest of the hotel. We had problems with our rooms and the managment so much so they we left 3am in the morning 8hours before check-out. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone not even for one night stay. No one likes to be ripped off. I definitely felt like we were. And the reason why I submit this is b/c this is still going on even now. You've been warned everybody.

**Avoid** This Hotel!!
By Bumpurr, 11/03/08
The very nice marketing write up and pretty picture, do not match, at all, what it actually is. What renovation? They must have missed our room. There are alot of stairs, no ramps, no elevators. Was there for a cat show Nov 1-2 '08, and they had the nerve to charge a $25 non refundable pet fee, for cleaning they say. Not sure how they expected us to get our cats, equipment & luggage up all those stairs. Rooms were filthy, carpets were stained, bedspreads were stained, bathroom sink was stained & cracked. Waited over an hour for extra pillow/blanket, and had to call 3 times. Maid went in a room, after being told not to, and with a do not disturb sign, left the door wide open, and almost let loose a very valuable show cat. Parking lot is very confusing, dark, not well lit, and the various entrances, by letters, are not well marked in the dark, and again, alot of stairs. Hallways are filthy, carpets stained, and no clear way marked, to get back to the front desk. You would get cleaner rooms and better service, for less money, at the Red Roof next door. The Convention Center, where the cat show was held, was very nice, although, being billed as having great food, all they offered us for lunch was soup and hot dogs, I expected a little better from from the marketing write up. Was told they had bell boys, but if you check in, after they have gone home, you are SOL, and looking at carrying your luggage up alot, alot of stairs.

For the Money, a Disappointment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/27/08
The location was very convenient. The rooms were nice, but the halls were dirty, stained and smelly. There was only one person working at the registration desk, even when there was a sizeable line of incoming guests waiting. The cleaning staff was the biggest disappointment. Not once did we get the necessary number of washcloths/towels without having to complain to the front desk. The kiddee pool was not in operation. For the money, you expect better than this.

SMELLY!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/08
We thought we found the perfect hotel by the website, but it was run down and had a strong mold odor. The halls were gross and the room was below average. The pool was run down and there was an AWFUL smell at the pool and in the parking lot. The breakfast was good, but did not make up for the hotel conditions. SKIP this hotel! VERY DISAPPOINTING

What's with all the negative reviews?
By , 08/03/08
We just got home from a weekend in Lancaster with the kids, there were a lot of us...maybe 8 families or more in our whole group. After reading the reviews of this hotel, we were worried about the conditions. People are just awful. The hotel was great. Granted, the carpeting could be replaced, and the pool area needs some help, but the hotel was great, the kids had a lot of fun, the bathrooms were NOT gross and our room didn't have mold, no one's did, and now that we've been to the hotel, we'll definitely be going back but get rooms that are poolside, on the ground level next time. This way the grownups can at least still hang out while the children sleep in their beds.
