Sawmill Creek Resort, Huron

We liked the room, but could uses updating,so could the lodge. I had to park so far from room, because there was no parking near the room. I had to walk from the main entrance to the Ontario building. I talked to a lot of people who had also walked a long way. Not too helpful to have a trailer block at least 8 spaces right in front of the building! The food at the restaurant was excellent. We did not enjoy the New Years’ eve party. The bands were not very good, and we did not enjoy the drunken lead singer. We tried to request some songs, and were told they could not do requests. They did not play enough slow songs; they also just stopped playing and left. We did not know if they were done or changing bands. You would have been better with a DJ. Bartenders were inconsistent, some drinks were to strong some to weak, depended on bartender. Wine for a drink was so bad we could not drink it. Our party will not come back, or recommend any one to go to your New Years‘ eve party, unless we can be assured these problems are solved.

In July, my family and I along with a few cousins were going to cedar point. We reserved 4 rooms in all at sawmill creek resort by way of expedia a few days in advance. My family arrived first at the hotel and we decided to check in and tell the others to meet us at cedar point. We checked in and were told that one room was ready and the other three had to be cleaned and we should come back to the front desk anytime after 4pm to receive our room keys. After putting our bags in the one room that was ready we headed off to the park. Once we returned later that night at 11pm, we all headed off to the front desk to retrieve our room keys. The woman at the desk never even looked up from her computer and said with a complete air of indifference that the resort was overbooked and they " didn't even have a broom closet". Apparently expedia had overbooked and the 4 rooms we had a few hrs earlier had vanished. I understand that expedia had made the mistake of overbooking, but to tell us we had 4 rooms earlier and later tell us we had only 1 room for 8 people is absolute rubbish. And in addition to this they never even apologized. They treated the situation as if throwing two families out on the street in the middle of the night was a natural occurrence. Because no other hotel had any room we ended up driving all they way home at 1am. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. Mistakes do happen but how they acted toward the situation was unacceptable.

Just returned from a conference held there and the meeting rooms and facilities were acceptable but be aware that if you have a health problems and are unable to walk long distances you will be uncomfortable. Also, parking is limited near the rooms. You will also be charged .65 per phone call even if you use your phone card and dial the 800 number.

The Resort is very nice and in a great location, food and service were outstanding except for room cleanliness. On a four day stay we continually had to pick up after the maids left. shelves were dusty, carpet had little rocks and pebbles which were hard on bare feet and bathroom was not always cleaned.

Our room was in extreme need of updating. We stayed in the Ottawa building, the farthest from the lobby. Our building still had a scoop ice machine, the kind you have to put your bucket in to scoop the ice out. GERMS!!! The lobby seems like it was redone to attract business travelers but they didn't do much to attract families. The pool water was freezing and also needed some painting. The paint on the steps and ceiling were all chipping and peeling. This was definitely not worth the money to stay here.

Very family friendly but with a flair that adults appreciate also.
