Don't Stay at Quaker Square Inn
By ,
I ran the Akron Marathon and booked at the Quaker Square Inn because it was close to the starting line. When booking, we were told that we could have a late check in because we would not finish the marathon in time for the on-time check out. I paid $50 more than most other hotels for the convenience. However, they denied the late check out request and I ended up showering at a YMCA. It was awful. There's nothing like wandering downtown Akron after running 26 miles in search of a shower because your high-priced hotel would not accommodate. The night clerk was rude. The day clerk simply stated that the manager set the policy for runners. The manager made no apologies. Maybe they just decided to put the squeeze to the runners of the Akron Roadrunner Marathon. Or maybe this is always the way they treat guests. Either way, it's not good.

Dont ever hold a wedding reception there.
By ,
I was very disappointed in the service we received at a wedding reception we held there. The dishes were dirty, the coffee cold, the rolls stale, the staff rude, and very little seating for the cocktail hour. It was not worth the money we invested to have a good time.

Worth visiting just to see it
By ,
I have stayed here twice, once on business and once with my family. I loved the nostalgia and learning about the history of the hotel. Beautifully done and rooms are clean and modern looking. Most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Hallways are crafted like a maze through the silos. Wonderfull breakfast buffett complete with oatmeal.

Being an architect major it was very interesting the room and how it was converted from silos to hotel.. and it has a rich history :-)

Glory Days are Over
By ,
Very cool idea for a hotel. We spent six days at the Crowne in Akron visiting relatives. Restaurant had good service and adequate food (didn't try the train snack counter). Unfortunately since they are closing November of 2007 I think they have given up on travelers and will just try to get it full of conventioneers until the University of Akron converts the silo rooms into dorms. They cannot make the rooms larger to compete with today's typical hotel room, and the beds are not overly comfortable. I used to expect good things from a Crowne Plaza. Our room was NOT very clean, and the daily maid service was so minimal we had to complain.(No refills on soap/shampoo; pieces of trash that had obviously fallen out of the cans onto the floor while being emptied were left where they fell- several times; strange hair in strange places) Our air conditioner was SO loud that each time it came on during the night we would jerk awake (staff said they would "check into it"). It almost drowned out the trains that ran all night. Unfortunatley there was a conference and the hotel was full of doors slamming at all hours. You would think that concrete silos would help hold the noise down. I am not likely to return to the Crowne Plaza Akron

I'll go back
By ,
We really liked this place. My top priorities were met--clean, wonderfully comfortable bed, good shower and quiet hallways. Good value--we paid $99 for a double which I think is very reasonable. I've paid more than that for much less at other hotels. I really appreciated the ambience of this hotel. The room was interesting and spacious with unexpected attention to detail--an actual bath rug in the bathroom--in addition to the bath mat--a nice little bag on the bed containing EAR PLUGS--they saved me because my husband snores really loud, a nice bottle of linen spray and eye-pads-to block out light--not sure what they're called. Bedding was high quality and I slept great. Also, FOUR nice chairs in the room and an extra table, the room was large, BR was large, shower was nice with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be the night we wanted dinner and didn't want the buffet--the food was mediocre at best. The breakfast buffet is really nice and the oatmeal was creamy and wonderful, since it was zero degrees outside that really hit the spot. Also--another nice surprise is that there are little half-round balconies in the rooms so you can get some fresh (cold) air. I felt completely satisfied and pampered. I'll go again for sure. Too bad they don't have these in MD where I live. Thanks Quaker Square--we appreciate you. The Coles
