This place is a dump.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/14/11
In 30 years of travel this is the worst hotel I have ever visited. From the booking description, as a minimum, it should be a “clean and comfortable establishments offer more than just the basics. Limited service makes your stay affordable without compromising on quality.” This establishment violated even these simple terms. There is no part of this hotel that is “clean and comfortable.” The hotel's condition is misrepresented. Some of the many, many issues are: 1. The condition of the hotel's public spaces and rooms are horrific. Dirty public hallways, elevator and stairwells. The ceilings are stained, the wallpaper or paint peeling and the carpets are stained and not vacuumed. Some hall lights are hanging by their wires and most aren’t level. 2. The hotel has the slowest elevator on the planet Earth and many of the control lights are burned out. The motion is jerky when it does finally move. 3. The whole place smelled like “bad locker room dank.” This was both the hallways and our rooms. 4. Each of our balconies was covered with dirt and what looked like dark mold. All windows were unwashed. 5. The bathrooms were super scummy. Has the tub bottom ever been cleaned? What is that brown crud? 6. Our room faced a roof with very loud fans. 7. The hotel was overrun at night with noisy Hispanics in the halls talking on cell phones and rooms with open doors. Is this a hotel or boarding house? I understand that oceanfront hotels have a tough life. The hotel was damaged in the recent storms but the facility should be closed and fully repaired before re-opening to the public. And there is no excuse for the soiled and un-vacuumed carpets, dirty walls and peeling paint and wallpaper. In summary: terrible. Do youself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Great hotel for families and groups
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/22/11
After reading the earlier reviews I was extremely concerned about staying here as they were less than stellar. Well I can tell you that they are wrong. Not sure if there is new management and these things were corrected BUT it was a great time. Also, the staff was helpful and friendly. The price was perfect for a 3 day weekend @ the beach. Since we were there for a softball tournament with several players and teams we received a substantial discounted group rate. We did not see 1 bug in any of the rooms and we had several of them. Yes, the price is high if you do not receive a discount, but look where you are staying during the peak season, they are comptitive with other hotels that are similar to them. Cons: Yes, there are 2 steep ramps getting to the 1st floor/elevator which presents a problem getting luggage/coolers up but its managable. If you truly want an ocean view-make sure you get the 2nd floor or higher. but the first floor was great for us as there is a large deck out of your room so it was perfect for our evening team barbeques with plenty of room for everyone. My feedback is to give it a chance, we were satisfied with it. Have a great vacation!

Not a good hotel for families
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/10
We arrived late on a Friday evening with our children, exhausted from a long day's drive. We went to bed almost immediately, but woke up to find huge cockroaches all over the hotel. When we inquired about the bugs, we were told they were "water bugs" but the exterminator we found spraying the rooms/hallways confirmed they were cockroaches. The temperature in the breakfast room was very high, and the common areas of the hotel were run down. The elevator only worked intermittently. Had there been any other rooms available in another hotel, we would have left immediately. I do not recommend this hotel!

Looks can be deceiving!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/10
The Hotel had a nice Lobby and at first site you thought that this might be a nice Hotel. Our First room that was assigned to us had a wet floor and smelled. We were reassigned to a new room only to discover bugs all threw out the hotel. We spent some time by the pool and of course the bugs hung out with us out there as well. Never again will we stay at this hotel. I am not a fan of the many huge bugs that we had to look at while there. Don't let the lobby appearance fool ya.

Will never return to this hotel!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/10
We had a group of 8 hotel rooms and each one was more disgusting than the next. Between the leaking air conditioner, sopping wet floor, leaky ceilings and bug infested rooms, we will never return...although the location was great!

Unresponsive executive staff
By William, 7/27/10
We stayed for three days here. The ceiling in the room had a 5 foot mildew spot [or something akin to that] on it. The shower floor was dirty. The exterior lock to deck didn't work. Pet policy allows barking dogs. If all you're interested in is the beach, this would be okay. It did not by any stretch meet our expectations.

Cold and dirty
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/20/10
We recently stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The view is spectacular and is the best feature of this hotel. Be prepared to push your own luggage up 2 steep ramps before getting to the old, poorly operating elevator. The hotel rooms are smelly, dirty and run down. There was no hot water and the room was cold and drafty. Management was indifferent but not impolite. Pass this one by!!

Marion and Jenny were wonderful!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/7/09
I called Hotels.Com to book my reservation. After hanging up with the very rude guy at Hotels I felt uneasy about the whole conversation. I think all he wanted was the sale. He guaranteed me an Oceanfront room. So low and behold when I called the hotel, I was booked for a standard room. After going back and fourth several times between business' I finally got my reservation cancelled with Hotels. Com and booked directly with Marion at Comfort Inn. She was very accommodating and gave me what I was originally promised through Hotels. Take my advice, these companies are only good for comparing prices. Not only that they are outsourced. Book directly through the hotel next time.

don't stop here
By Teresa, 1/29/09
we stayed on the 1st floor, we carried our dog. dune view? ha! the outside door would not lock, dead bolt not at all. the regular lock would not caught, the only thing we had was the safety lock. I went outside and pushed my weight up against the door and it just popped open. I used the luggage rack and a chair to put in front of the door. also the heater rattled when it came on, I got no sleep. It was late when we found this out and just dealt with it. they did adjust our room rate, but no more stays for us.

Palmetto What?!?!
By Jen, 8/28/08
Waiting 2 days for cleaning service and almost 3 days for a fresh set of towels was the least of my complaints at the Clarion. Worse were the enormous cockroaches sharing my room. Worst of all was realizing later that I had been blatantly lied to about it by the Clarion management staff. I complained about the infestation twice during my stay (especially after spending a whole evening chasing and killing numerous roaches bigger than my whole thumb) but both times I was assured that they weren't roaches, but 'Palmetto Waterbugs' common to the area. I wasn't convinced or properly reimbursed, and the manager on duty wasn't interested in inspecting the evidence still in my room. Once home, a quick search confirmed that the 'Palmetto' is just another name for a very large species of American cockroach. A big thanks to the Clarion management staff for their honesty and respect. I think next year I'll choose to stay at one of the many other just-as-affordable and surely more honest oceanfront hotels that DONT have "waterbugs."
