Some advice to the hotel: Let your guests microwave food if they want to. Also, get your room reservations correct the first time(two doubles in a room, not one king bed for 4 people). And you might not want to charge someone again who already paid for their room.
When I checked in, I was waiting behind 2 other people who were checking in. When one of the two people behind the counter were done with a prior customer and freed up, they just walked away instead of attending to me, so I had to wait for the other person to finish with their customer. The bell-hop was friendly enough, but we waited 20 minutes or so in the room with the king bed after already making the call letting them know that we had a room that wouldn't accommodate 4 people. They said they'd send someone over to show us our new room and we just sat there twiddling our thumbs for longer than it should have taken.
We stayed 2 nights at Tarrytown, then went to NYC and stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Times Square. Without a doubt, all of us slept better there due to the comfort of the beds. I'm currently pregnant and noticed a lot more aches and pains when sleeping on the Tarrytown bed, compared to home or the other hotel. I had a terrible night's sleep the first night, as did the other 3 people in the room.
The hotel staff seemed to think that I was upset for the extra $10/person per night more than 2 people being in the room, which wasn't at all the case. I was upset for the extra $350 they were trying to charge me for the room. The lady at the front desk tried to make some small talk with me while I was booting up my computer to show them my confirmation email and charge on my credit card, which I somewhat appreciated, but she never listened to what I was trying to tell her until it was right in front of her face.
For my honeymoon, my husband and I stayed at the Biltmore Inn, down in Asheville, NC. Everything there was wonderful and went way beyond my expectations. I had high hopes when I saw this hotel's lovely website, I really liked the upscale feel of the architecture and decor of the main buildings. I can see why people are drawn to have weddings there. But as far as a hotel goes, and a place for guests to stay overnight, the hotel failed miserably, from the service, to the beds, to the stinky smoking room we got first before we were moved. I didn't even bother with the restaurants or paying $6 for toast for breakfast at the Biddle house, because I was so unimpressed with how we were treated upon arrival. There is absolutely nothing special about coming to this place when you are treated so carelessly.
