Worse than a Motel 6
We arrived in our room to find the bed had been turned down, lights turned on, etc. and the room was extremely warm and damp (so much so that the boxed soap was wet). We've stayed at many hotels in Hawaii (including Hiltons) and knew that even though it was a very hot and humid day, something wasn't right. We called to the front desk and asked them send someone to check on the A/C. They said the engineer would be there in 15 minutes. 35 minutes later, we gave up waiting and called the front desk again and asked for another room. None were available so we just asked them to send someone the next day.
We arrived back at the hotel around 5 PM and the room was even warmer and wetter than when we left it. I went to the front desk and asked for another room. They didn't even comment on whether or not they had even sent someone to look at our A/C. On my way back to Room #1, I noticed Room #2 was in the stairwell and across from the elevator and housekeeping room - not at all in line with our preferences they have access to in their system. I went back to the front desk and got the key for Room #3. We packed up Room #1 and went to Room #3 only to find that it was even hotter and wetter than Room #1 was.
We then stormed back to the Front Desk, luggage in tow, and asked if they had any rooms with with functioning A/C. It was only then that they admitted they had a problem with the A/C at the hotel. They gave us the key for Room #4 which was located in another wing of the building. Finally, working A/C!
We did not have a car and it was storming outside so we looked into dinner in one of the hotel's restaurants. Apparently they are being renovated and are only serving buffets. This was not mentioned on the hotel's web site (Hyatt mentions similar inconveniences on theirs). The only positive was that our room service pizza was quite tasty and was delivered in 35 minutes instead of the promised 60.
Checkout at the hotel is at 1 PM and we were planning on staying in our room until that time because we had a late flight. We had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door yet we received a phone call around 11 AM telling us they needed to get into our room to check our mini bar. I have never experienced this before.
When leaving, we called ahead for a cab and were told to go outside and have the valet call it for us. We went outside, passing what we thought was the doorman, on our way. No one was there, so we just stood there for a few minutes to see if the doorman would come help us. Well, he came outside with a group of women and gave our cab to them.
