Love this place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/03/07
I’ve been taking my family vacation in Ruidoso for the past 35 years. When my kids we growing up in the 60’s and 70’s it was still a small quite mountain community. The past 10 years or so a lot of fancy motels have popped up changing Ruidoso in a way that I don’t care for. For the past several years I have been staying at High Country Lodge because it still reminds me of a better time. It’s located a few miles out of town which makes it a lot quieter and has more of a mountain atmosphere. My kids are all grown now and they are staying at High Country with there own children (my grandkids). If new and fancy is what you are looking for you can find it out on the major highways. If you don’t mind staying in an older place with lots of things for the kids to do than this is the place for you.

My experience was a bit different....
By Rollie, 07/05/07
One thing I will say about High Country Lodge is that it is cheap, but after getting there we discovered you get what you pay for. Don't expect anything fancy, the cabins resemble duplex trailers. They would have a nice view if they had better windows, and if the window was not filled with a large window ac unit. The unit we had was very worn out, the furniture was broken down and mismatched, the oven didn't work and we had to pay for ice as the previous guest didn't refill the ice trays. Also you are expected to take out your own trash and make sure to put your dirty linens in the tub or get a $25.00 surcharge. Also the ac didn't work and I had discovered the filter had never been cleaned so I cleaned it for them. The bed was nice, and it was clean. Shower is designed for shorter folks. All in all it was okay, but don't expect much for the price. If the owners invested some money in this place it could be really nice but check around as there are a lot of nicer places closer to Ruidoso. They don't have internet but do have a communal computer at the office.

Great Place to Stay
By Luis, 05/18/07
Recently my wife and I stayed at High Country Lodge, in Ruidoso, NM, it was a pleasant stay. The best way to describe it would be comfy country with great deals. We only paid little, but got two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, great services, a pool, hot tub and more. I would recommend that everyone gives it a look or a try. The managers of the building are the nicest people you can meet, and they will do everything possible to help you. I guess it is a pretty popular location for baseball teams, community services, family reunions, and retreats, the managers told me this. They also said that they try and help the businesses out around ruidoso, so they do give discounted rates for workers, military wokers, and also other returning guest. I would go back in a heart beat.

Family Friendly Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/18/07
This place was great for my children, they loved the gameroom and the pool. There is a lot of space for the kids to have fun, very family friendly. The staff were busy yet still found the time to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The rates were great, a two bedroom cabins for around sixty five bucks, you can't even found that in the hotels. I have to admit it was old looking but it was very clean, and had charm. All in all i would go back. They had great rates and my family and I had a wonderful time.
