Ok Hotel, Great restaurant!
My husband and I just got back from a 4 day, 3 night trip to Las Vegas. We stayed for the first time at Fitzgeralds, wanting to stay down town this time.
First what we didn't like: hotel wasn't very clean - the tub was slow to drain, and I noticed toward the end it was because there was a sticker over the drain - it hadn't been removed the 2+ days there. Feet got black just walking across the floor. I gave a tip each day, asking for extra towels the first day. The next day the extra towels were gone and not replaced.
We almost didn't get to check in. Neither the travel agent or hotel told us about putting money down. We checked in late at night, the day before we got paid (direct deposit), so didn't have $100 cash on us, nor did he bring anything but our debit card (we were afraid of theft) with us. Luckily staff allowed a $20 deposit. The elevators were slow, but not too bad. We normally had a 2 minute wait. Unfortunately, the day we checked out we wound up walking down the stairs from the 19th floor because then it was a 20 minute wait.
We ate the first night at the Courtyard Cafe. Sliders are excellent appetizers, and the food was good and plentiful. We went back the next day just to order the sliders, and the morning we left we went for breakfast.
Did not hit it big :(, but we did have enough success to keep us playing on the winnings. We each would throw $20 in and walk away with $30 or $40 regularly.
Overall, we have decided that we do love the idea of staying on Fremont. It's quieter, less crowded, and less expensive than the main strip, which we visited a few times this trip. We will probably visit another hotel though, maybe Main Street Station or Gold Nugget for our stay.
For those considering the hotel, despite the negatives, it's not a bad place to stay. If you are on a limited budget, my advice is to book a cheaper room (such as here) and save your money for the many other things to do.
