Yea, needs improvement.

Wow, we just got back from our three day two night stay with the River Palm. Well, lets start at the beginning, after you cross the river and turn left and you drive forever passing every casino except the River Palm, After a great sense of abandonment you near the end of the casino row and "presto" the River Palm does really exist. We found the covered parking garage easy enough and unloaded our bags and hauled them over to the front desk. I should have unloaded the bags at the loading / unloading area which was only a 1/8 mile closer but since,I was too cheap to pay for the valet parking or for a bell hop I did it myself, plus it was only 111* bright sunny day, besides I cherished the exercise and we entered the casino/resort. When I reached the front door I was struck with the idea that self opening doors would really have been a nice touch, but needing even more exercise I pulled on the door and entered the building, Seemed impressive enough and the desk was clearly visable. The entry was clean and pleasant and thank God the A/C was in full operation. The line at the front desk was short and within a couple of minutes I was face to face with the front desk person. She was pleasant and very knowledgeable in her duties as well as in giving directions. We were assigned room in the lowest level of the older section of the casino/resort.
The casino seemed pleasant enough and we hauled our bags down to our room. The key card worked without incident. When we entered the room and the A/C was already on which was great. The lighting was dim in the entry area, we found our way into the room. The floor was dirty and I really think that had they used a vacuum cleaner on the floor, the cleaning staff might try plugging it in next time. There where candy wrappers next to the bed frame. There were sunflower seed shells next to the night stand table. The beds appeared made but they also appeared to have been sat on prior to us entering the room, The bathroom door had been hit so hard that there was a smashed out area in the middle of it. The electrical plug in receptacle in the bathroom was loose. Soap scum was present all over the shower / tub area. The bathroom floor was also dirty. The second day I spoke to the maid and expressed my displeasure in the cleanliness of the room. She advised that she would give the room extra attention. When I later spoke to her she assured me that the room was ship shape. And all though it was cleaner then the day before it was still sub standard in my mind.
It was a $20.00 room and was questionable if I took them or they took me. The beds where worn out and lumpy and the pillow were feather pillows and for some bizarre reason known only to the hotel owners they seemed to be half sized to a normal pillow. Carpets throughout the room and the in the hallways as well as within the casino were DIRTY. Carpets within the casino were often torn and repaired in what can only be called a crappy manor. The food was ok, mind you ok is not good, but we didn't die from food poisoning either. We ate three meals within the casino. Our major dinner was a total cluster F*@K as only half the food came out at a time. Half of the party had eaten before the other half even got their food.
Free booze on the gaming floor, the hostess was sloooooooooow at making a second pass. Sit at the bar and play the machines there as the bar keep will keep your drinks full.
The place is old, run down in in need of a major facelift. The staff is employed but not professional. Stay somewhere closer to the bridge. There wasn't anything wrong with my money and it spends just a well at a real resort Vs. a run down dilapidated has been named the River Palm. No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, its still a pig. So if you stay at the river palm it's your own fualt.
